Pretty good, Jul 09, 2009

This episode utilises the cast well, and is generally very enjoyable.
Frasier's plot - stuck at home with the daughter of his new girlfriend
- is pretty amusing (see Frasier on the phone screaming "No! Way!")
and has a nice psychological undertone which, in true "Frasier" style,
comes back to bite him at the end. The subplot is more enjoyable,
with the exploits of the rest of the main characters - and Bulldog - at
a bachelor auction. It's an unusually strong side of Daphne
(forgivable due to the alcohol intake) but other than that, it's a very
funny episode.

This episode was marvelous! Right from the beginning of the story, when Martin asks if Frasier will get Bulldog to be in the auction, you get the feeling that this is going to be a really good show. I loved the interaction between Frasier and the opinionated daughter. I also enjoyed it when, at the end of the episode, Frasier was on the phone, too, saying "No way!" This is a favorite of mine, and if you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest you do.

A hilarious episode. It's rare to see the irrepressible Bulldog lost for words, and only
the equally irrepressible - and drunk - Daphne could carry it off, as well as managing
to insult him and laugh out loud while doing it.

The 'baby-sitting' was just as funny, as Renata took over Frasier's phone with a never-
ending monologue of "No way!" to Frasier's mounting irritation.

Perhaps the plot premise was a little thin, but the comedy certainly wasn't. My only
complaint would be the almost complete lack of Niles, who in my opinion is the real
star of the series.

This episode sees Frasier forced into babysitting for his date's daughter Renata. Credit should be given to the writers for bringing a lot of laughs from what could have been an embarrassing premise. The scene where the men prepare for the date auction is also amusing but Daphne's date with Bulldog less so. It also now seems rather too predictable that Frasier's romance would end before it began.

'Can't Buy Me Love' review, May 19, 2005

An episode that is stronger on laughs than on plot, the early scenes at the bachelor auction are good fun and I love it when Frasier refers to his date as his 'new owner'! Elsewhere there are some good moments when Frasier has to babysit for his date's lying teenage daughter while Jane Leeves is on terrific form in the scene where a drunken Daphne and Bulldog are sitting in the limo. I love the way she refers to him as 'Pitbull' after he is violently pulled through the car door. Despite an almost complete absence of Niles, this ranks as another enjoyable and funny Season 1 episode.
