Heh, in a fortnight's time, I'm going to be making a post something like:

OMG, now I'm actually going to have to go out with boss's friend, aren't I? How did this happen?

This ^^ isn't something new I learnt, but it does confirm why I really f*cking hate Facebook and never intend to join it.

I've sent a hell of a lot worse than that after a few drinks

If you think there is anything left to make an excuse for, slip into the convo that you've just finished a bottle of wine

Strange that you should ask if he's single though if you have no real interest.

Perhaps it's possible that you want to see what your boss' reaction is if you show interest in another man?

Haha, God help us, IA! Except that I don't believe in God, so that ain't gonna happen for me.

Okay, so here is my post and his response:

Me: Anyway, you haven't answered my question (which in all fairness, I didn't actually ask in so many words), which is - is **** single?
(I'm going to wish I had that 'delete' button again in a minute, aren't I?!)

Him: Yessssssss.

How do I respond now so as not to make an even further twat of myself? Or should I not respond at all? I can't make sensible decisions, someone make them for me!

I've been trying to work that out myself! My colleagues have told my boss outright (hehe, I keep actually typing his name by accident) that I'm attracted to him. I lied my way out of it convincingly, but then a couple of days later I made the mistake of playing it overcool so I expect he thinks I do now. So - maybe by asking if his friend, who is totally different from him, is single, I was trying to convince boss that I didn't have feelings for him?

And I know that I'm a total weirdo/social inadequate for not being swept along on the tidal wave of love for it. Never having been on it (or even been tempted to) is a real conversation-killer these days! For example:

Person X: I'll add you to my friends on Facebook.
Me: I'm sorry, I'm not on Facebook.
X: Twitter, then.
Me: Sorry, I'm not on that either.
X: MySpace?
Me: Nor that.
X: Oh. *sidles away before breaking into full run*

Ooh, that's an interesting idea. I'm going to wait awhile before sending anything back. Wouldn't want him to think I'm hanging around on Facebook waiting for his messages or anything.

Agides, I respect and admire you for not getting sucked in... seriously, I do! And I mean this next bit seriously, too - Facebook is scarily powerful, I'm saying with no hint of sarcasm that it has more power than any government or organisation in the World. On a personal level, it can make and break people's lives, and on a political and legal level, it can have enormous, immediate impact. It's all the more scary because it's impossible to regulate each and every user's input. Anyone can say anything, and it spreads around like wildfire.

Hmm, okay... let me try to think about this logically! I've used the alcohol excuse before, so he'd probably see through that. Re. saying that my friend might like him - then he might wonder why I'd said the thing about the delete button.

Fuckit, I think perhaps I just won't respond at all!

Heh, d'you know what would be really funny? That's if I've left myself logged into FO in my office 200 miles away, and he uses my PC (which he does frequently) and finds the site.

Just in case he does... if you're reading this, stop spying on me! PS. I love yoooouuuuu!!!

I'm with IA on this one - tell him you're asking for a friend and I'll be your alibi if you like. :)
(I would have preferred to go down my usual route of screening potential suitors by asking for 12 months' worth of bank statements and a couple of personal references, but beggars can't be choosers! )

I think DG and I have gone crazy in love!

And FJ, stop finding my secret shrines!!! (I did actually have a room like Frasiers No 1 fan, but took it all down after watching that ep, as it scared me shitless!)

I know... how psycho do I sound?!

Do other people go through things like this (and have the sense to keep it to themselves!) or is it just me?!

Actually, others must experience it, otherwise The Divine Comedy would never have written Everybody Knows.

Jeez, things are getting complicated now.

So:
1. I have my 'true love' who I'd happily grow old with, except that he is already attached, miles away and unavailable. :(
2. I have my (also unavailable) boss, who becomes the object of my affections as a substitute for no. 1.
3. I have Agides, who is thinking that she should maybe be bicurious but isn't that keen on the idea.
4. I have IA, who has just revealed that she loves me, but is really far more in love with someone else!

Hmm. :?
