Well done to Del Potro. About time we had a new name on the trophy.

Anyone been following the 2010 Australian Open?

Been some great matches this year. Andy Murray has reached the men's final this morning with victory over Marin Cilic, and will face the winner of Friday's game between Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Serena Williams meets Justin Henin in the women's final on Saturday.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on it. I'm not Murray's biggest fan but fair play to the lad - I hope he goes all the way this weekend.

Federer completely demolished Tsonga today. Should be a decent final.

I see that Laura Robson has made the girls' final. She's excellent at that level, so i hope she can make the step up when the time comes.

I haven't really seen much of it so far because of the time difference, but I intend to watch the finals tomorrow and on Sunday. I'd love to see Henin and Federer win.

Bloody hell. The match is about 30 minutes old and the score is only 3-2. Might be in for a long night.

For those who didn't watch the match live:

Spoiler: show
Federer in straight sets 6-3 6-4 7-6 (13-11). Always feel sorry for the loser of a final, especially of a Grand Slam. Murray has to win one sooner or later though.

Federer was in awesome form. Nobody could have stayed with him in that mood. The final result looks comfortable, but Murray did cause problems and did well to fight right to the end of that tie-break. He could easily have collapsed under the barrage altogether - like Tsonga.

Federer's showing why he's arguably the greatest ever player. I wonder if he could even pull off the grand slam this year?

Not completely out the realm of possibility. Federer looks to be only player that normally contests Grand Slams who has some consistency. Nadal's knee looks suspect, Murray's confidence can plummet and his game suffers, Djokovic can be dangerous on the right day. Del Potro also struggles with consistency in a two week tournament.

There again, this conversation happens with anyone who wins the Australian Open, all we can do is wait it out. I agree that Federer was in supreme form last night.

I think Federer's the only realistic person i could see doing a slam in the men's game. Since he broke his French duck last year it's got to be possible. Could well depend on Nadal's fitness come Paris time, of course. Fed's always going to be favourite for Wimbledon and the US.

Is it bad of me to say that I'm glad Venus Williams lost yesterday?

No. But all it does is make it easier for Serena to win it again this year.

True but at least I won't have to listen to both of them grunting during a final!

Amazing to see Federer fall yesterday. He's stuttered through this year's tournament, but i expected to see him in the final. Djokovic must be pleased. Murray's looked good. Probably been the most consistent of the big names, really.

Watching Serena Williams celebrate winning a service break is terrifying.

To be fair though, watching her do anything would be terrifying.

Great performance by Murray once he got going. Absolutely destroyed his opponent in the last two sets. Must have won about 15 games in a row

Looked easy for Nadal in his game, too. Be interesting to see if anyone outside the top four can stop any of Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray.

I thought he was going out after that first set - I do want him to do well but I must admit it was quite amusing to think of him suffering a first round exit with all this expectation on his shoulders :D

Heh, i only switched on at around 4-3 in the second set. I don't think he lost another game once i'd tuned in - so i should obviously take credit for the victory :D

Comfortable games again for Murray and Nadal. Nice to see Laura Robson get through her first round match, too. Looked dicey at times. Tough test for her meeting Sharapova in R2.

The Fed-Express has failed to deliver again this year. Very well played Tsonga.
