New theme 'Another Way To Die' was played on Radio1 this morning, apparently. They've only got a 40 second clip on the BBC website at the moment. As usual, people on the BBC message board are calling it (in best Simpsons Comic Book Guy voice) Worst Bond Song Everrrrr!!!

I quite like it, and i think it'll grow, but then i really like 'You Know My Name' from Casino Royale.

Here's a link to a longer clip somebody put on zShare if anyone wants to hear it.

Interesting. I don't know. It lacks something but then nowadays Bond songs have to be chart hitters or some such. Other then You Know My Name...I don't think I've really liked any song since View to a Kill.

Is Quantum of Solace going to be the direct sequel of Casino Royale?

The plot elements kind of follow on, so i guess you could call it a sequel. It's not completely separated, like other Bond films.

No, indeed. It's meant to be the first direct sequel to the previous film. Kind of like what Diamonds Are Forever should have been to On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

The pre-title sequence did kind of follow on from OHMSS though didn't it, with him trying to find Blofeld. It obviously wasn't a pure revenge flick, though.

Is anyone else quite enjoying these Coke adverts which incorporate the QOS theme? I'm really looking forward to the film now. I'll be there come Halloween...

I saw the first commercial for Quantam of Solace. YAY! It looks very good. I wish I had someone to go see it with once it comes out.

I don't know who I'm going with. I'm going with someone I know that much but whether it's my London contingent or my local contingent...well...who knows.

Can't say i'm enjoying the adverts, purely because i can't stand Coca Cola, and the fact that their wanker marketing team managed to get the adverts out before the song had been officially released. (Good on Jack White for publicly denouncing it, and making sure he wasn't at all associated with a rather White-Stripesy-looking advert). But, i am looking forward to the film's release now. It's funny how many songs start to sound Bond-esque around the time a new film is due.

The Times featured a booklet detailing the latest BFI Film Festival and within it an article written by Roger Moore about Bond...at the following link

And if there's one thing I'm tiring of as always, is Bond puns.

Might be worth a read. That, and the book that accompanies the new Stephen Fry show about America - also half price at the moment.

Now if you're talking Sean Connery....that man IS Bond.

Brosnan plays a fine Bond as well.

The films get a new complete release

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/6535061/ ... oduct.html

I did buy the Ultimate Edition set (Dr No-DAD) and add to that with CR in 2007...though if OHMSS has extras I might bother...though that DVD's cover-work looks like they've taken a Dalton shot from Living Daylights and added Lazenby's head.

Wow they've blended Casino Royale seamlessly into the collection.

What great timing to release yet another box set design when a new one will have to accommodate Quantum Of Solace in a few months.

I know. I'd love to own one of those box sets but it's not like a complete collection is on the horizon anytime soon, with new movies coming out every couple of years for the next few decades I imagine. I should at least make an effort to get the Connery collection though, the golden age...

Unmade Bond script fetches £46K

A screenplay for a James Bond film that was never made has been sold at auction in London for £46,850.

The script for Warhead, written by Sir Sean Connery, author Len Deighton and producer Kevin McClory, had been expected to fetch no more than £3,000.

In the 1976 script, Bond battles robot sharks attempting to plant a nuclear bomb in sewers underneath New York.

Legal battles stopped the film being made. Sir Sean eventually played 007 again in 1983's Never Say Never Again.

The lot, part of Christie's Pop Culture: Entertainment Memorabilia auction, also included a photo of Connery, McClory and Deighton working on the script in Ireland.

Photographs

If made, the film would have featured such familiar Bond characters as Ernst Stavros Blofeld, Felix Leiter, Moneypenny, M and Q.

It would also have seen James Bond encounter beauties like Justine Lovesit and Fatima Blush - a character who eventually appeared in Never Say Never Again.

Other items in the sale included a fur-trimmed stole worn by Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe which sold for £42,050.

A collection of vintage photographs of the actress Marlene Dietrich also went for £27,361.

"Numerous lots far exceeded pre-sale expectations, demonstrating the continued appeal and durability of the pop culture market," said Christie's Katherine Williams.

article comes complete with NSNA Connery image.

Obscene, 46K for something that quite honestly sounds like an Austin Powers plot. If people think Never Say Never Again is bad then Warhead would've been even worse.

I had no idea about the existence of this until I read about it earlier today. Connery must've been itching to screw Broccoli for years before making NSNA (again, after a 20 year court battle or something). Kevin McClory worked on the original Thunderball script, didn't he?

I forget the exact story but McClory had something to do with it mainly on account of Thunderball originally going to be the first film. According to one book I had, Deighton and Connery worked on something called "James Bond of the Secret Service" or some such. McClory, who died last year, was by all accounts a bitter man who wouldn't let go of his rights to Bond. Acclaimed rights anyway.

I remember hearing about Warhead but had no idea it involved robot sharks.

Sounds like some sort of Jaws cash-in given the year, and a particularly ridiculous one at that!

I always assumed Connery lost interest in Bond's character and quit because he didn't want to be type cast. Being two years younger than Sir Rog, he could have quite possibly have made it all the way through to A View To A Kill if he'd have got on with the producers, given this information.

You never know. Though Connery was bored by Thunderball, fed up of paparazzi. Though if he kept coming back sort of like Eastwood with Dirty Harry, Caine with Harry Palmer every so often...

Looking online McClory kept trying to remake Thunderball into the 90's as well as Warhead -Warhead 2000 AD (as it's cited on Wikipedia). So he had quite the Thunderball-bug up his rear.

Maybe good thing he didn't remake OHMSS or From Russia With Love.
