Postby welshben23 » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:35 pm

Sorry this thread is open to the over 18's only :D I was thinking about drinking after reading one of DG's posts and was wondering what is/are your favourite alcoholic drinks. You may put them in categories like me if you wish.

Lager/Beer - Corona
Red Wine - YellowTail
White Wine - Asti Spumante
Cider - Strongbow
Rose - Griffith Park
Spirits - Jack Daniels or Русский Стандарт (Russian Standard) Vodka

Lager/Beer - Lowenbrau or Grolsch
Red Wine - Australian Merlot
White Wine - French Chardonnay
Cider - none really
Rose - probably something like a Californian Grenache
Spirits - JD is ok, but not a big spirit drinker generally

Lager/Beer - yuk.
Red Wine - Anything that is quite 'fruity' the closer to Port it tastes, the more I tend to like it.
White Wine - none, I'm allergic to some, and that kind of puts me off.
Cider - Mmm, yummy. Pheasant Plucker, Special Keg, Stowford Press.
Rose - Echo Falls White Zinfandel.
Spirits / liquors - Archers, Baileys. My absolute favourite used to be Bacardi Twist Mango, but they don't make it any more. :(

I tend to just stick to beer generally. I'll drink more or less any brand. Find it hard to tell the difference.

I'm supposed to be babysitting tonight, actually, but I've had quite a bit to drink. Quite irresponsible of me really.

Beer/Lager - Carling, Molson Canadian, Sleemans, Peroni, Leffe

Wine - None, Frasier would disown me but I hate it :?

Cider - really don't like it

Spirits - Bourbon, Whiskey, Brandy

Cocktails - Margaritas all the way! And this cranberry/lime/sugar/crushed ice/vodka one at Revolution I can't remember the name of.

I'm surprisingly fussy when it comes to booze really, unless I'm in that state where anything will do but even then I have been known to turn my nose up.

As a rule I likes me some Beer and Bourbon. Just not together :)

I stick to lager (Note BN: I said Lager, not 'beer'), and my favourite brands are Heineken and Budweiser. Although when I'm out I usually order Tenants because it's the cheaper than the rest in a bar. I like most lagers.

I also love sparkling white wine. Asti is lovely IMO, but too sweet for many.

I like those girly drinks like Smirnoff Ice, but they get sickening after two, and I never drink them in public. Rarely say no to Cider either.

As for spirits, only Vodka, with either 7Up, Diet Coke, or cranberry juice as a mixer. Although I have been known to order three double vodkas, with no ice, pour them into one glass, drink like a glass of water in one go, and then order another three doubles and repeat. Very rarely though. That's only when I have too much money in my pocket and I'm with a friend of mine that drinks like a fish.

:D I can do that with Bacardi, usually doubles though not triples. But hey I'm female (yes I played the girl card!)

EDIT: - bloody hell wait you said three doubles!

Yeah, so 12 hit you all at once  It's just for 'show' though, have to concentrate on keeping it down for about the next five minutes! Like I say though, it's not a common occurance!

That is quite impressive! I have a mate who can slam back 7 tequilas in a row and/or down half a bottle of wine. Again for show and she usually staggers round the rest of the night waving one untouched drink around

Me I was thinking of 'double please', then 'hit me again'. Quite tame compared to the above!

Wouldn't recommend it, because the shock value and entertainment for your peers lasts all of ten seconds and you end up trying to hold it down for the next ten minutes and not feeling like having another drink for about an hour! Not to mention the £25 or so it cost :?

Don't worry I'm not about to run out and try it  I think my limit was 5 tequilas in a row at uni after a fair few other drinks. That 'saliva rising' queasy stomache feeling and swallowing hard whilst trying to smile and look 'a ok' was painful!

Ooh, I forgot about cocktails! MSOs are nice.

The best one I've ever had... this will sound sickly to everyone else... had Baileys, Kahlua, Banana liquor, cream and a shot of Grenadine poured down the middle.

Out of the list, I only drink Cider and spirits of a regular basis. Favourite Cider is Kopparberg, favourite spirits are Archers, Malibu, Southern Comfort and Jagermeister.

Have you ever had Bushmills Whiskey? I think the New York Times ranked it as the best Whiskey in the world (I stand to be corrected, I half read that fact on the way past a billboard while I was on the bus). It's made not too far from my house, and it's the oldest working distillery in the world.

I hate Bushmills Whiskey. I'd rather drink crappy rail whiskey than Bushmills or Dewars.

 So you're not too keen on it then.

Do you prefer irish and scotch whiskeys - blends and malts, etc - to the american bourbons, and the like?

Yesterday, I went out and bought a litre of Absolut vodka, a litre of Bacardi rum, a big bottle of finest port, a few bottles of wine (Australian Shiraz), and some Irish liqueur thing. I'm gonna have a good week.

Nice one! I've been laying down a bottle of port for about 10 years now, which was given to me as a present by a serious wine connoisseur (I think it's almost catching up with me age-wise). I plan to crack it open for my next significant birthday in a few years' time.
I've nursed this thing like a baby, checking it's temperature regularly and where it has been stored. It will be something of a relief to drink the b*gger!!!!

How do you serve - just tell everyone to stick their head in the bowl and gulp down as much as they can? :P

Oh, I'm gonna be drinking this. I don't want it haunting me for the next decade! When I say 'finest', it was only from Sainsburys, it just looks posh!
