Season 4 - Best Frasier Season?

Postby Cake for Brains » Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:05 pm

Not sure if this has been done before, so apologies if it has.

Season 4 is generally regarded as the strongest year 'Frasier' ever did, but do you agree with this? Is it your favourite season?

I love Season 4, but for me, it's eclipsed by Season 3, which contains more standout classic episodes than any other. Season 2 and 4 are pretty much equal in my affections.

Season ranking: 3, 2, 4, 6, 5, 11, 1, 7, 9, 10, 8

The first three are all excellent, but all the rest of the season's seem rather patchy on re-watches these days.

When I first got S4 I considered it the strongest season, but now after a lot of re-watches I would say S3.

My order of seasons would be: 3, 5, 4, 2, 6, 11, 7, 1, 10, 8, 9
Frasier: What do you do when the romance goes out of a relationship?
Roz: I get dressed and go home.

nope.

I'd place 1-3 and even 7 above S4

I'd put 5,3 and 2 above 4. (possibly even 1 but I'd say 4 and 1 are interchangeable)

5, 3, 2, 4, 1, 6, 7, 11, 9, 8 and 10

No. I always thought it was until i rated all the episodes and took averages. Currently they rate as:

S1. 87.17%
S2. 87.42%
S3. 87.38%
S4. 86.46%
S5. 83.38%
S6. 83.92%
S7. 82.17%
S8. 73.25%
S9. 73.21%
S10. 72.33%
S11. 77.42%

2, 3, 1, 4, 6, 5, 7, 11, 8, 9, 10

Can't believe people can put S11 above S1

The first and final season's swap around quite a lot for me. Both have some good episodes, but I don't they're terribly consistent and have lots of merely average/okay episodes.

Classics in S1; The Good Son, Space Quest, Dinner at Eight, Miracle on Third or Fourth Street, Show Where Lilith Comes Back, Midwinter's Night Dream, Give Him the Chair, Author, Author, Travels with Martin, My Coffee with Niles = 10

Clunkers in S1; The Crucible, Call Me Irresponsible, Oops, Selling Out, You Can't Tell a Crook by His Cover, Fortysomething = 6

Classics in S11; The Doctor is Out, Maris Returns, High Holidays, Caught in the Act, Boo, Match Game = 6

Clunkers in S11; The Placeholder, SeaBee Jeebies, Frasier-Lite, Coots and Ladders, Detour = 6

Maybe S1 should go abouve S11 after all... :)

I don't consider Doctor Is Out, bad let alone a clunker.

No, it's ok, Cakey rightfully called it a classic of S11 - one of the very few as far as i'm concerned.

No not for me:

2, 3, 1, 6, 4, 5, 7, 11

Can't rate the others yet, I know they'll be last but don't know in what order.

Selling Out?

I wouldn't consider Selling Out a clunker in any way, shape or form. And all the others I enjoy although, they aren't GREAT. With the exception of course of The Crucible which SUCKS!

As for the S11 clunkers listed, I have no argument with The Placeholder, Seabee Jeebies and Coots and Ladders but I really like Frasier-Lite and Detour.

Just out of curiosity, I know A LOT of people don't like Detour. What exactly is it that turns you off of it so much?

I don't think Detour is a bad episode, it just seemed like a bad idea having so much focus on Frasier and a guest star, two episodes from the big finale. At that point there wasn't much left of the cast you grew to love so much. Although I suppose it did provide evidence that Frasier really is falling for Charlotte, even in the most horrid of circumstances.

I've only seen it once and whilst it wasn't a great laugh episode I did think it was sweet for the fact that it showed it didn't matter what Frasier was doing, if he was with Charlotte, he was having fun.

Yep!

Amazed at the results of this poll so far, although nice to see some love for S3, which used to be regarded as the weakest of the first 5.

I wouldn't say i don't like it - there's a number of worse episdoes.

I just don't like it as much as a lot of other episodes in season 11. Maybe the timing. Maybe just a little too daft of a stereotypical hick family for a show like Frasier to write about at the end of its run.

I always imagined S4 was my favourite until i went the Wezzo way of grading eps. If i'd gone with my gut i would have chosen it, i'm sure.

Fair enough. I think the reason I like it so much is because Frasier is so NOT uptight and nuts when everything goes wrong.

For me, it cements the argument I have had about Charlotte being "the one" over all the other "the one's" in his life. For the first time, he is relaxed and just has fun because he's with the right person. He isn't all neurotic and nitpicky.

Plus, I just love the Creepy McWeirdo family. :D

Yeah - at that time in the show's run, I really didn't want to see some rubbish cliche-ridden family taking up a load of screentime. I wanted the Cranes, and lots of them! 'Detour' really got on my nerves, in fact.

And as for this poll, no - I prefer S3 to S4 anyday!

Season 4 had some of my favourite episodes, e.g. 'the two mrs cranes' an 'mixed doubles', but I preferred seaons 2, 6 & 7 above 4.
