Is Harrison Ford too old to play Indiana Jones?

Postby DHP » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:49 pm

Simple question: the first shot of Indiana Jones was taken today on the set of the latest (and as of today, untitled) film in the Indiana Jones series. The question is, from this shot, do you think Harrison Ford is too old to take on the role for a fourth time as the naysayers would have you believe? Or do you trust the mighty trio of Spielberg, Lucas and Ford to know what they're doing?

I'm surprised they all want to retread an area that was rounded off quite nicely as a trilogy. It's not like any of them are short of other work and money.

I don't think he's too old to do it particularly, rather that so much time has passed by since the previous outings. I do worry about it - or should i say the point of it.

I put too old and perhaps regret it now considering Willis has done Die Hard 4000, Stallone Rocky 60 but maybe too old for Indy.

As long as Harrison Ford is playing a 64 year old Indiana Jones, then no problem

well, it is set in the 1950's and according to something I read Indy was born in 1900 so...well the rest is easy maths.

In terms of the point of it, Spielberg and Lucas certainly don't do things because they're short of cash, and I doubt Ford's short of funds either. I believe the point of it is partly one of nostalgia for them, in that they clearly enjoyed themselves a lot making the originals, and that they genuinely believe they can make a solid, good film.

I've tried. Never mind, I'm used to opposition or being in opposition.

It's surprising to me that there's so much faith in the people behind and in front of the camera here to do a good job, given that a few of my friends aren't too sure about this, on account of Ford's age and him being cut out to be an action hero.

But hopefully the success of Rocky Balboa and the promising signs of Die Hard 4.0 will prepare the way for Indy's return next year as far as the sceptics are concerned.

They are, but Matt Damon's playing him. Apparently Adrien Brody's playing Mr Spock, and James McAvoy is due to play Scotty. Certainly sounds like the most promising Star Trek film in a while! And J.J. Abrams is directing.
