Loved it to bits, along with the SNES Mario Kart. I'd have loved to have played Yoshi's Island. I heard nothing but great things about it, and the original Super Mario World was a fantastic game. Kinda wish I'd got it on the GBA. Ah well, nevermind.

Yoshi's Island is just a beautiful game - not only in terms of graphics (and even now I think the art design on the game is striking), but also the way it's structured, the level design, everything. It's amazing!

Yeah, that's what I heard. Something I sadly missed out on I'm afraid. Did you ever play International Superstar Soccer Deluxe? I'm told that at the time, it was the best football game around. The franchise eventually changed its name to Pro Evolution Soccer and the rest is history.

I did, yes - I hate football, but my brother bought that and we played it a fair bit. I remember the huge, chunky gold letters saying 'GOAL!' flying onto the screen everytime you scored (which wasn't often for me, admittedly). I also seem to remember it was very easy to foul, which I did a lot.

It's interesting that it's so close at the moment. I guess that reflects the popularity of these consoles at the time though. For every person I knew who had a Mega Drive, there was one with a SNES.

Lucky guy. I used to want to have all the Nintendo consoles, but I never managed to get hold of a SNES. Had a NES, original Game Boy, N64, GameBoy Advance and Gamecube at different times over the years, but sadly missed out on the SNES revolution.

I've never even heard of Mega Drive! Was that something that never made it to the US? Or was it just that unpopular that none of my Video Gamer Geek friends had one?

A Mega Drive is a Sega Genesis.

I couldn't honestly say. They were pretty huge over here. The Mega Drive/SNES war was equivalent to PS2/XBox or PS3/XBox 360 - both pretty similar technically, and both roughly as popular as each other. The debates as to which was better filled many a dull maths lesson in our classrooms back in primary school. :D

Oh, then I've heard of that!

Never played on a Genesis though. Only on the SNES.

This is the first tough call for me but I think I'm going to stick with the SNES for the Mario games again and one other reason...Mario Kart!

The first game in the classic series was amazing. I have fond memories of the hours and days I spent trying to win the Special Cup on 150cc... Struggle through the first three races, pick up as many points as possible and then attempt to do the perfect race on Rainbow Road to win the championship. Very very difficult  :D

Norm: Alright, but stop me at one. Make that one-thirty.

God yes, Rainbow Road. Completely frustrating and brilliant! I love Mario Kart 64 too (it's a brilliant multiplayer game), but it was strange how Rainbow Road went from being the track from hell to being a ten-minute drive with barriers all the way along!

Sticking with Mega-drive. Sonic and what have you.

A tie so far.

Impressive, most impressive

Yeah I don't know why they went and made it so awful in the Mario Kart 64, completely boring and the computer characters always cheated too. The only interesting thing was trying to make the massive shortcut from the ramp going down at the start which cut out about 1/3 of the track.

Much of that game was very easy, but it was great fun as a multiplayer though! :D

Yeah - it was fine if you pulled that off three times, but if you ended up sailing off into space and being plonked back at the start it made the whole thing drag like mad!

Very true. The key was always to at least bounce on the track, as if you did that you would be placed back on that part of the circuit and still gain time. However if you missed it life certainly seemed to drag...

Does anybody remember the old T2:Judgement Day Arcade Game with the gun? I was just playing the mega drive version on the PC, it's infuriatingly difficult using a keyboard... exhilirating, though. :D

I remember playing that once, yeah. Cracking game, love FPS arcade games with the guns. Keyboards suck something rotten for FPS games. I'd imagine the Wii controller would be good at those sorts of games. I understand you can download much of Nintendo's back-catalogue to play on the Wii. If you can use the wireless controller in the same way in the arcade, that could make GoldenEye something special. Man, I gotta get me a Wii!!!

Been playing a Wii tonight as it happens, trying out a few of the games other than Wii Sports, but of the ones I played, none were as enjoyable as Wii Sports. There was a game which comes with the controllers which was quite a laugh with lots of mini games. There was also Rampage which you may remeber from arcades or older consoles where you play as monsters destroying cities. This was quite good but suffered from a bit of repitition (as did its predecessors). The controller wasn't that easy to use either. I also briefly played a fishing(!) game and a Wario game.

I was a Mega Drive dude. Although Mario and Killer Instinct on SNES are great.

Ah, now there was a great game. Shame it got killed off by the N64 incarnation, I loved that game.
