As Rob suggested in the Dear Diary thread, a poll on whether you enjoyed PE/sport at school.

Cheers Wezz, much appreciated
Obviously I have put a big tick against yes, especially the game with the odd shaped balls! Wet or dry, I would love it out there, steam rising from your body as the intensity increases and the competitiveness unfolds. The feeling that you can run and run, until your throat burns and your body shakes, but then you know you have to put in that extra 'mile', and the animal in you takes over, and forces those limbs even harder and when you beat that record, score that try or make that game winning tackle; Nothing beats it, apart from the obvious, but they're not actually that different!

It was ok.

I loved swimming, soccer (yes, SOCCER not football) and softball.

I didn't like the track and field or the gymnastics so much.

My junior year in high school, PE (or gym as it was called) was a blast. We played ping pong and badmitton and had life saving classes. Plus, my gym teacher was really fun. Mr. Schmidt! He was a riot.

In college, I had to have one 3 PE credits so I took a 3 credit Cross Country skiing course. We barely had any snow that year so it was about the easiest 3 credits I've ever gotten!

Great thread title!

I hated PE. Football, rugby, cross country, gymnastics, you name it - I was crap at sports, and always have been. I didn't mind tennis and swimming so much, but I still wasn't good at them.

I didn't mind it. I was quite good at tennis and badminton and I was good at swimming. I wasn't really very good at the other sports, but I didn't mind playing them.

Not really TBH, mostly because all we do now is football and i can't stand playing it!

It was OK when we did "real" sports like badminton, basketball and so on. I get out of PE now for studying and ocasionally scribing for an exam.

All things considered, I actually did now I think about it. Swimming was fun in primary school, I was pretty handy at rugby and athletics, and was on the school team as a sprinter and basketball player.

My fondest memories of PE were towards the end of high school though, when we were psyching ourselves up for exams, and the teachers knew it didn't matter if we did the sport or not, so they made it unofficially optional, and those of us who couldn't be bothered found an empty classroom and chilled out in there for the duration of the 50 minute lesson, usually playing poker. :D Ah, that was the good life!

I had to go with Yes. I enoyed sports at school. I played Football, Basketball and Volleyball for the school teams. We got to play table tennis in the final couple of years, too. We even played Dodgeball, which doesn't seem to be too common in the UK.

We played Dodgeball a lot elementary school. Once we got into middle school and high school, we played a game called "Battle Ball". It was a lot like Dodgeball only the court on the losing side got progressively smaller. And I think it was played with more than one ball. Can't recall for sure though.

I should maybe reword to say didn't seem to be too common at the time - i imagine things should have changed by now.

Here in the US they won't let the kids play dodgeball anymore!

Kids are pretty much not allowed to do anything fun!

I like it when we play a game called mat ball, like kick ball. I love basketball, but a lot of P.E. is kind of boring (like when our teachers give us worksheets).
Wow, between school and basketball, when am I...going to be able to watch Frasier!!! Oh, don't worry I'll make time.

Just realised I didn't answer myself. I hated it - especially swimming and athletics; I could just about stand most of the others.

Originally didn't quite mind it, then after year 2 hated it. Being bullied in class in one thing but on the field is another, especially when the parents join in too. Never really excelled.

Tennis and badminton were especially fun for me, because I was good at them. (Tennis is a really good game, by the way.) And I learned to swim when I was very young, so I've always been pretty good at it.

I was never much good at netball, so whenever we played, I'd hardly ever get the ball passed to me. However, I was very quick at running away from whoever was marking me - I'd sprint off and when my marker looked around, I'd be gone.

I must agree with you there, Tennis is a fantastic sport (we don't have courts at school, but I sometimes play at a local club). It seems boring to a lot of people, but I like the leisurely pace of "play-by-play" sports like tennis and cricket; relaxing yet exciting enough.

Personally, I'd rather shove shards of broken glass up my arse than do netball, hockey, football, rounders or athletics. Tennis isn't so bad because you're with a partner and they don't laugh at you when you're crap. Dance I like, but the 'Plastics' often laugh at me and say that I think I'm it. Gym I've always sucked at because I'm such a wimp.

Only recently found out that I'm rather good at badminton! And for the first time in my life, I've actually signed up to play it Tuesday lunchtimes!

Some people think it's a sissy sport because it's not as rough or as full of action as rugby or football. And you're right, some people think it's boring. I used to think that too, but I became interested in it when I was 16.

Well, you have to be super fit to endure the intensity of tennis tournaments and the potential 5 sets, which can last for hours.

I like football, but the players don't know they're born when they complain about having to play 2 matches in 3 days, or whatever.

netball, hockey, football, rounders or athletics

Ok, out of all of these things, the I only know what football is (your version of it, in my world it's soccer). And I'm assuming by "hockey" you mean field hockey and not the ice variety.

Can someone please inform the British impaired American what rounders and athletics are?
