What's in a name?

Postby tubalcain » Mon Jun 22, 2009 12:34 pm

I know the name Lilith equates to 'of the night',but I was wondering if the name choice of Maris was euphamistic as well?
Any thoughts?

It just sounds like a blue blood snotty name to me. Fits her perfectly.

The only connection I can make is the following:

Mar·is (mrs), Roger 1934-1985.
American baseball player who spent most of his career with the New York Yankees (1960-1967). In 1961 he surpassed Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60 home runs and was named the American League's most valuable player for the second year in a row.

Cheers - Baseball

I know, it's a bit far-fetched...

Here's a far-out attempt:
Maris piper (potato)
Piper at the gates of dawn (P.Floyd)
Dawn - end of night.
Surely this means Lilith and Maris are in fact one and the same.Nemesis!

Saw this on a names website:

First name origins & meanings:
Maris - girl
1. English: Child of the moon
2. Latin: Of the sea
3. Latin: Of the sea
4. Spanish: I am the sun

So, not far off when Frasier says Maris is like the sun, except without the warmth!
