Which is better? My Coffee with Niles or Dinner Party?

Both episodes reside very comfortable in my Top 10, possibly even Top 5, so I'll have to think long and hard before I cast my vote.

That was a really tough choice for me but I chose Dinner Party just because I LOVE the "You are SO that OTHER one!" line!

Hmm. Difficult one. I think 'My Coffee with Niles' is the better episode, although I prefer the story of 'Dinner Party'.

MCWN wins out here. Both are decent episodes, though. MCWN makes teh shortlist as one of my favourite episodes of all, so has to win really.

I'm with you in every way. My Coffee With Niles was the better episode, but the better story was Dinner Party.

:) Yep - although in the end I had to go with the one which is, ultimately, one of the most beautiful examples of television comedy ever - so 'My Coffee with Niles' it is!

Well, I went for 'My Coffee' in the end. I just find it hugely satisfying and clever, and I just think it has a very celebratory feel to it.

Best Real Time Episode

Postby topcat1987 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:10 pm

I voted for My Coffee With Niles as I think it is a very witty and clever episode that has a kind of special feel to it.For me Dinner Party feels a bit listless and dull but does have some brilliant lines.Daphne's and Roz's byplay in Dinner Party is very funny but not as amusing as Frasier's and Niles' in My Coffee With Niles.Dinner Party would make it into my top 50 but unlike My Coffee With Niles wouldn't make it into my top 10 although it is an entertaining episode.

My Coffee With Niles - hands down.

Shows exactly why I love Frasier. It just seems so... philosophical. Makes me want to sit and have coffee in the rain :)

Guess which one I choose.

MCWN. It is on, at least my top ten list. So, I had to go with it. I've always loved coffee, but now, I'm macchiato woman. :)
Wow, between school and basketball, when am I...going to be able to watch Frasier!!! Oh, don't worry I'll make time.

Very tough choice, but I just went with Dinner Party in the end. I love MCWN, it's superbly written but the way Frasier and Niles' relationship is explored in DN makes for more satisfying viewing IMO. I've definitely re-watched it more than MCWN, which is some kind of indicator I guess.

Hmm this is really tough...and I just watched both tonight. I watched My Coffee with Niles earlier and then read this poll so I had to watch Dinner Party. haha I'm gonna go with My Coffee with Niles, although Dinner Party has some great moments and lines. I love them both!

I would have to go with My Coffee With Niles. It was vintage Frasier. Niles' spit-take when Frasier asks him if he was in love with Daphne was classic.

I love this exchange after the "frothy" spit take:

Frasier: Niles, you're not considering leaving Maris?
Niles: Certainly not!
Frasier: Well, I suppose the situation you're in is that you'd like to stay with Maris but you'd like an affair with Daphne.
Niles: Yes. Can I do that?
Frasier: No, you can't!

LOL! I had forgotten about that. Isn't that near where Niles blames Frasier for hiring "Venus herself" instead of some brawny East German woman and Frasier says "I tried, but it is an Olympic year"?

I can't remember what the exact quote...looks like I found an excuse to buy the S2 dvd set. 8-)

I don't think any other show could have pulled it off...making such a great episode out of the simple premise of two brothers' conversation while having coffee. I always think of MCWN when Niles tells Frasier "I'll miss the coffees" in Goodnight, Seattle.

Me too, I'd forgotten what episode it was in! It's Niles' face when he says 'Can I do that?' that cracks me up. For a second or two there, he's really serious about it, and he looks most disappointed when Frasier says 'no'.

I went with MCWN, the indicator being that I actively seek this episode out, as opposed to always watching the other when it's on (a fine line, I know!!).
