Frasier or Niles

Ah it appears Niles has the edge at the moment, and while Frasier is a Freudian, Niles is a Union, so there will be no blaming mother today.

I voted Niles - no question. I feel I need to quote Kit here "he's always so neat and put together I just wanted to mess him up!'

1) However I would imagine I would get on better with Frasier, outside of family Niles doesn't seem to have or need any friends (that I can think of). And whilst I do like a challenge I imagine Frasier would be easier to get on with.
2) Niles definitely, he makes me laugh the most, my favourite scenes tend to involve him and my heart goes out to him the most.
3) Well... not knowing a thing about acting I don't really feel qualified to give an opinion, but hey that's never stopped me before Whilst I think Kelsey Grammer is outstanding, I have to say David Hyde Pierce has the edge for me. He doesn't even have to say anything he can just do a 'look' and it blows me away.

I would have to agree with much of what you say!

1) Though I probably wouldn't mix in either brother's 'milieu', I do think Frasier appears to be the more down-to-earth of the two. He is more of an 'everyman' and was from the outset given his experiences in Boston. Possibly Niles made a similar odyssey of self-discovery in Frasier, going from a privileged marriage to a rich society woman to his involvement with Daphne and her shady family members.
2) Niles is (and possibly always will be!) my all-time favourite sitcom character. I can't even necessarily say what it is exactly that I love about him so much, but he is such a lost soul at times (despite his apparent snobbishness, success and social standing), that I can't help but warm to him. The same goes for Frasier to a large extent, but for me Niles evokes that sympathy x 10.
3) I would LOVE to see more of KG as an actor - ESPECIALLY live on stage. But I have to say I find DHP slightly more versatile - his comic touch is superb in both verbal and physical scenes, he can be completely strait-laced and believable in dramatic roles and he is a natural on-stage performer.

1. Frasier. Niles wouldn't give me the time of day, I'm sure. Frasier is a lot friendlier and more approachable, and more human somehow. Niles does have an aching humanity buried in there somewhere, but apparently you have to be a statuesque Mancunian to draw that out of him.

2. Niles. The miracle of Niles for me is that I like him and I shouldn't. He's snobby, prissy, weak, spineless, occasionally pitiful. But you root for him and for some reason, want him to be happy. He's a wonderful achievement of writing and acting and of all the Frasier characters, his journey over the 11 years is the most epic.

3. Both are superb, but DHP for me. He's so subtle. Nearly every time I rewatch an episode I notice another little detail of his performance. But then he can also act 'big' if required. And his emoting is incredible, in something like the end of 'To Tell The Truth' - you see a multitude of emotions cross his face, including the moment where he tries to put on a happy front. Affecting stuff. So yeah, I think he's good.
