Battle of the Seasons - Episode 24

Postby Cake for Brains » Mon May 14, 2007 7:49 pm

Aww... the last poll! I'm surprised we made it this far! :)

I have to confess that I'm pretty happy with the way these polls seem to be going, so I thought I'd go on right ahead and start off the next one. I think we got 22 votes for one of them - which is a personal record for me!

You know the drill by now - vote for your favourite 24th episode from the eleven seasons.

The poll will remain open for a week.

Happy voting!

The final stretch...

I just voted for the wrong one

I meant to vote for SBSB Part 2, which is a wonderful moment in Frasier, but I voted for Coffee. :( That would be my second choice.

The biggest problem with these polls is that the double length episodes have to be separated into two episodes in order to make them work effectively, which means that you'll have to bear the following in mind:

* If you vote 'Shutout in Seattle', you are voting for the second half. Niles date with the Nervosa waitress and the Crane men singing Goldfinger for example.
* If you vote for Something Borrowed, Somone Blue, you are voting for the scenes at the hotel/the scenes with Niles and Daphne on the balcony.
* If you vote for Goodnight Seattle Part 2, you are voting for Frasier's farewell to his family and radio listeners, and also Daphne giving birth to little David.

There will be an ultimate 'Battle of the Seasons' poll, which will start a week from today on Monday 21st May, in which you choose your favourite of the 24 winning episodes. I'll try my best to collect as many statistics and pieces of trivia as possible.

Anyway, my choice - it was a real toss up between 'My Coffee with Niles' and 'Shutout in Seattle'. I feel terrible that the latter won't get any votes, because it deserves some (it's better than the S11 finale IMO), but I'm going with My Coffee, because it's a real-time masterpiece. There's a real sense of finality to it, and it's a wonderful conclusion to the show's first year, as Frasier evaluates his life and whether or not he's happy. It's beautiful, and contains many great lines.

The candidates for Seasons 1-3, 6, 7, 9 and 11 are all worthy of mention.

What a batch, what a batch. Had to go with Goodnight Seattle Part 2 though - my 2nd favourite series finale of all-time (my favourite until yesterday!) But there a lot of deserving candidates here.

Goodnight Seattle, part 2. After season 1 I don't think Frasier handled season finales very well.

I grudgingly agree: they weren't really hoghlights for me. Bar a few exceptions.

A New Position for Roz! Greatest Season Finale EVER in the history of television! Beats the finales of SFU and MASH into the ground! OR.......mabye IT should be be beaten into the ground!

I did go with one that's not as popular in the finale category though. Goodnight, Seattle was wonderful but I prefer the first part of it.

I like My Coffee With Niles and Dark Victory a lot. Something Borrow, Someone Blue is a classic but I had to go with Odd Man Out. It's very Frasier-centric and those episodes usually rank high for me.

As much as I loved Dark Victory, even A New Position for Roz and a couple of others I was in like Flint for My Coffee With Niles. From start to end I found this episode enthralling and brilliantly written and staged. One of the finest episodes and when I hear 'are you happy?' and think of this episode.

Genius.

Seriously you enjoyed A New Position for Roz?

I know a few have changed their tune on A New Position and have decided they only dislike the last 10 minutes but I honestly hate almost the whole episode. Worst season finale of the series without a doubt!

I agree. I love it when Martin pretends to be blind to let Eddie come in Nervosa!

Wait a tick, your post above mine says it's the best series finale and now you're saying it's the worst. Bloody hell, Cat, make up your mind!

Well, I gave SIS my ep 23 vote, so don't feel bad about voting for SBSB this time around. I love the S1 and S11 finales too but I was blown away when I first saw SBSB - I couldn't believe I had to wait 6 months for season 8!

I gave my vote to 'My Coffee with Niles' - yet again an episode which epitomises everything that's great and unique about Frasier, and contains all the things which meant it pissed over every other sitcom going.

I was tempted to go for 'Dark Victory', though, because it's underrated and superb.

Yep. It's a funny, clever and moving episode, which never gets the recognition it deserves!

I like how every member of the cast gets their own moment to shine - we get Frasier going through them all one-by-one and making them feel better. I also come away from 'Dark Victory' feeling really warm and happy.

It was either that, My Coffee With Niles, or Goodnight Seattle. Dark Victory seems to be the one I've watched the most.

My Coffee With Niles is the only one that does not feature the "Thank You For Calling" segment at the end.
Dark Victory is brilliant for the blackout and almost a one-set episode bar the opening scene in KACL.
