Battle of the Seasons - Episode 4

Postby Cake for Brains » Mon Apr 02, 2007 6:57 pm

The first 3 polls proved surprisingly successful, so let's move swiftly on to the next one. Which is the best fourth episode of the eleven seasons?

Happy voting!

After the stellar collection of third episodes, these eleven choices are a fairly underwhelming bunch IMO. I voted for Season 2's 'Flour Child' - but none of them are really true classics.

Had to vote for Flour Child. Niles and his "baby" cracks me up every time!

In a rather poor collection, it is the only one which I jumped to. The worst here has to be Hot Ticket, which holds the award for the only Frasier episode I would call "painful".

Flour Child gets my vote as well.

Love it when "the baby" catches on fire!

I do enjoy The Kid though because I really like the interaction between Roz and Rick when Rick proposes and between Roz and Frasier when Roz starts freaking out.

However I concur that this is definately a poor collection of episodes.

Although I'd say Kissin Cousin is more unwatchable than Hot Ticket. Not by much though!

You mean aside from the fact that it's excruciatingly boring?

The first half is okay, but the second half is just really dull IMO. Glad someone likes it though.

The fact I would rather be tortured to death than watch it again? I found it painful to watch, quite literally. I haven't seen Kissin' Cousin so I can't comment, CNR.

Leapin' Lizards

I voted for this as I couldn't really decide on one. Pointers for this episode: Frasier's delivery of the line "It's alive!" and then cutting to show Roz as we hear Frasier scream.
The line "hilarity ensues" and "you've just announced you're filled to the brim with girlish glee"

though, I do like The Kid and some of the others.

They were also good episodes, particularly Leapin' Lizards; I particularly like the clever line about the HMS Pinafore of embarassment already having set sail.

I voted for I Hate Frasier Crane - I think it's one of the best Season One episodes.

Season 1 is full of little 'jewels', I love My Coffee With Niles firstly for the fact it never leaves Nervosa. That one location thing was something Cheers would do, whole episodes in the bar and because of the writing you don't realise they've never left.
Secondly, such moments as when Niles & Frasier see Roz's latest 'conquest' (I quote as best as I can without checking)

Niles: Wow, he is kind of handsome.
Frasier: Wow? Did you say wow?
Niles: I believe I did, what kind of man am I?
Frasier: It means your a gay man and that your marriage to Maris has been a sham.

Slightly, off topic and misquoting.

Hehe, it's interesting you should say that as three of them are written by your favourite Frasier writer, Mr Christopher Lloyd!

It's amazing really, there are some stellar writers for the fourth episode each season but they can hardly be said to represent their author's best work.

I Hate Frasier Crane - Chris Lloyd
Flour Child - Chris Lloyd
Leapin' Lizzards - Chris Lloyd
Hot Ticket - Jeffrey Richman
Everyone's a Critic - Joe Keenan

Those are possibly Jeff and Joe's weakest ever episodes (although I do enjoy EAC - despite Poppy! )but the 3 CL eps are pretty good I reckon. I've never been that keen on Flour Child - not sure why - so I went for Leapin' Lizzards which *just* beats IHFC in my book.

A very interesting collection of episodes.

I think there's a genuine appetite for some Frasier chat around here, but for old hands like me it's very difficult to come up with something that hasn't been done before!

Bravo on this idea, btw! [:]DRINK[/:]

I've gone with Flour Child - just ahead of I Hate Frasier Crane.

I never realised Hot Ticket was hated so much. I'm with you Wezzo, i quite enjoy it. Nowhere near my worst episode. There's much worse in this list alone - Kissing Cousin is particularly annoying.

Each to their own.

Chris Lloyd is great, although he's not the most consistent writer - but when he's good, he's amazing! Although, he didn't write 'Leapin' Lizards' - that was Chuck Ramberg andf Anne Flett-Giordano', another pair of fantastic writers. Your Frasier knowledge is slipping, my friend.

I actually really lke 'Everyone's A Critic', or I did the last time I watched it. It's far from classic Keenan, but it's still very funny, and would probably have been my second choice.

Thank you!

I really hope you're right about some new appetite for Frasier on here - and I'd be delighted if we could sustain the interest in these polls for the full 24 threads. Looks promising... within 2 hours, and we already have 10 votes! I'm delighted. :D

Hmmm...

You're right, but in my defence:-

Spot the deliberate mistake!

I must admit I was surprised when I read the writer's name as I couldn't remember that ep being in his canon. It didn't feel like a CL ep, as enjoyable as it is.

My point about the writers still stands though, as CR/AFG wrote some stellar eps and in fact are my third favourite writers after JK and RG.
