Frasier Forum Awards: Nominations - Most Emotional Episode

Postby Cake for Brains » Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:02 pm

Please read my other thread 'Frasier Forum Awards - The Rules' in order to know all about the voting process.

Don't worry - I still haven't forgotten/neglected the 'Best Moments' threads for Roz, Daphne and Eddie, and I promise you'll have the oppertunity to vote in this categories very soon indeed.

I am going to ask everyone to nominate their Top 5 most emotional/moving episodes of 'Frasier', and the episodes with the most nominations will make the eventual shortlist and contend for the ultimate award. The 5 episodes with the most votes will make the shortlist for the award, and when the final shortlist is published, you will have another chance to vote in this category.

Here are some of the options you may want to consider, although I suppose this poll is extremely subjective:
* Give Him the Chair (what the chair means to Martin)
* Breaking the Ice (Martin tells his son's that he loves them)
* Moondance (the Snowball)
* Mixed Doubles (Niles and Daphne at the bar)
* Are you Being Served? (Niles signs the divorce papers)
* The Maris Counsellor (Niles empathising at his marriage counselling session)
* The Maris Counsellor (The Cranes lament on their love lives)
* To Tell the Truth (Niles sees Daphne with Donny)
* Shutout in Seattle (the Cranes discuss love in the bar at the end)
* Something Borrowed, Somone Blue (Niles and Daphne on the balcony)
* Frasier's Edge (Frasier's breakdown)
* A Day in May (Martin attends his shooter's parole hearing)
* The Return of Martin Crane (Martin goes back to work)
* Rooms with a View (Niles has heart surgery and the family are haunted by past memories)
* Boo (Niles and Frasier lament on how much they'd miss Martin)
* Goodnight Seattle (Frasier tells everyone he's leaving Seattle, Martin moves out and Daphne gives birth)

Above are just some suggestions, but there's probably lots of scenes I've missed out. Anyway, here's my list;

MOST EMOTIONAL EPISODE/MOMENT OF 'FRASIER'
* Mixed Doubles - the scene in the bar at the end between Daphne and Niles. 'What are you doing for the rest of your life?'
* Goodnight Seattle - particularly the part where Roz bursts into tears when she realises that Frasier is really leaving and Martin says thank you.
* The Maris Counsellor - the final scene on the balcony between the three Crane men, as they compete to see who has the worst love life is beautiful and very poignant. 'The Crane boys - love's great losers!'
* Give Him the Chair - the significane of Martin's chair - 'I want the chair I was sitting in the night you called me to tell me I had a grandson...'
* Something Borrowed, Someone Blue (the scene on the balcony between Niles and Daphne is simply magical)

That was really, really difficult, and I really wish I'd had the room to include 'Moondance' and 'Boo', which deserve honourable mentions, because they're both wonderfully moving episodes too. Think carefully about the episodes you nominate, and let's hope your episodes make the eventual shortlist. Get voting! Thanks.

Oh boy. Here's a tough one.

1.Frasier saying goodbye to his family and Martin saying "thank you" - Goodnight Seattle

2.Niles going in for heart surgery and everyone's hospital memories haunt them. - Rooms With A View

3.Niles and Daphne on the balcony - Something Borrowed Someone Blue

4. Niles signs the divorce papers - Are You Being Served?

5. Frasier and Niles saying how much they'd miss Martin if he was gone - Boo!

Obviously, I'd love to include Moon Dance and Mixed Doubles but I can honestly say that I feel these are my favourites.

Rooms with a View.

I've always found this episode to be a bit "uncomfortable" for me. It's a bit too serious and heavy for a sitcom, I feel. Not the typical Frasier episode. It was very emotional watching how each character dealt with the situation.

1. Goodnight, Seattle
2. Rooms With a Veiw
3. Something Borrwed, Someone Blue
4. Are You Being Served?
5. Moon Dance

It was really close between Mood Dance and Mixed Doules for 5th place, I would say they really both deserve the same

Goodnight Seattle
Frasier's Edge (particularly the end)
Martin Does It His Way (the final scene)
Dark Victory (Frasier's speech about how ungrateful they all are)
The Last Time I Saw Maris (the scene where Niles stands alone in the house for a brief moment before leaving.)

1) Frasier's goodbye, especially Martin tearing up...'thank you for, you know..'

2) Moons Over Seattle: Daphne wants to marry Niles straight away and telling her how much he means to her.

3) A room with a view: Whole episode apart from the few minor comic lines.

4) Just about any episode where Niles has a heartbroken look on his face when something happens to dash his dream of being with Daphne.

Frasier's goodbye definitely.

The only other genuinely emotional scenes I care for are Niles' eyes welling up after returning from ending the relationship with Maris in The Maris Counselor and his realisation that he might have 'wasted seven years of his life chasing an illusion' in Daphne Returns.

Nope, not a fan of Rooms with View and N & D's serious relationship bits in the slightest :D

I like the things that are simple and understated like when Niles says "I'll miss the coffees" which I believe is his final line in the series.

His first one though is rather unremarkable: "So I said to the gardener, "Yoshi, I do not want a Zen garden in my backyard.""

 Eh?

Most emotional line for me was Niles telling Frasier he wouldn't get emotional, and then saying "I'll miss the coffees".
The comedy leading up to that moment made it even more effective.

Visions of Daphne rates #1 for me. The look on Niles' face when Donny proposes is heart wrenching.

I'm sure we could all interpret 'emotional' in different ways. If we go with 'good emotional' then Niles and Daphne on the balcony in something borrowed, something blue.

However (and this is the first time that I've admitted this!) despite having watched Frasier for about 8 years, and having had the box set since it was released (and so having watched each episode tens of times), I have only ever watched Goodnight Seattle once. I just found it too emotional to really watch again. The scene where Frasier announces that he's leaving and he turns around in his living room to see Martin, Daphne, Niles and Roz all standing with tears in their eyes, as well as his goodbye speech on KACL just hit me like a train (yes I know that I'm a wimp ;) ).

(For anyone that cares, I was pretty much the same with the last episode of Cheers and Blackadder!)

I remember the last episode of Cheers ( I haven't seen it for a while) when Frasier can't talk/is at a lost for words, a rare occurrence! :D as kate says "Wouldn't you know it — on the day I'm leaving?"

His line is : "I... I... I... I..."
