Forum migration complete

The migration of the forum to phpBB3 is now complete and live, as is the integration with the gallery :)

Please use this thread to highlight any further problems / issues, or for further discussion.

The avatar max size has been increased to 100 x 100 pixels, as was discussed previously, and members with less than 10,000 posts (increased from 5,0000) can also see their most active forum/threads on their profile page. Due to server load issues, members with more than that won't see it.

Also spoilers have changed from from being a grey box to:

Spoiler: show
This is a spoiler

I have altered the font on the forum thread pages, though I'm still in two minds whether it's an improvement, I'll see how things go over the next few weeks and maybe tweak it again if necessary.

Also, there is a new birthday field in members profiles, which will show up in the birthday section on the forum homepage whenever that day rolls around, so if you want to people to know when your birthday is, fill in the fields :)

Good to see the forum back online!

Actually, one thing I've noticed is the menu bar for the main site is lower than it used to be, causing the top to look "out of sync".

Tom. :)

Looking good! Thanks Stu, hope the process wasn't too traumatic. :)

Thanks, process wasn't too bad thankfully. Re-creating the search index took the longest, about 5 hours, but I went and did some shopping while it was running

Not sure what you mean Tom though about the menu bar being lower? The whole site menu bar hasn't changed, only the forum one and there is a bigger gap now between the two so it may seem a bit different, plus it doesn't go all the way across anymore.

However, if it looks wrong to you as opposed to different, maybe you could post a screenshot? :)

I'm using FireFox, so that could be it:

I'm using Firefox, it looks okay to me. Different, but easy to get used to I think.

Question - can other users see who you have on your 'friends' and 'foes' list?

Thank god! I was having withdrawal symptoms. (seriously I was, I spent the most part of yesterday hitting "refresh" in the hopes that the migration went quicker than expected). Still trying to figure out where everything is, but overall the new look has grown on me.

Thanks Tom for the screenshots - it's definitely not meant to look like that

For me with IE7, it looks like:

I might have to get a copy of Firefox and try and solve it

As for the friends and foes list, I don't believe it is visble to anyone but yourself from within the User Control Panel

Looks the same as it does for Tom to me in Firefox 3.

Looking great overall, though!

Oh, right - I see what Tom means now. The 'menu' part of the bar is just a few pixels lower than the rest of the bar to the left and right. I hadn't even noticed that! It doesn't seem to affect the functionality at all.

OHHHHHHHHH...............now I see it.

Obviously it doesn't bother me since I didn't even notice it until I really looked for it.

It's never wrong to be critical.

(every time I want to make a post I accidentally press the 'Save' button. :? )

WOAH! Everything's back to front - it's like being in a left-hand drive car!!

But I love it - it looks gorgeous and thanks a million again for spending your Bank Holiday weekend doing this, Stu. :)

All working well for me. The cosmetic nav bar mis-align in Firefox seems like something to do with spacing in the table cells that are used to lay out the header.

Getting used to the new layout now after an hour of fannying around :)

Getting used to layout, what happens after you post and posting...and avatars...

It's like the Weymouth forum but considering I rarely post...I'm still getting used to it.

First rate, Stu.

I keep reading people's sigs, thinking they're part of the post! The fonts are quite similar. I like the font though, very clear.

Same here. And I'm using IE. But I don't mind at all, I don't think I would have even noticed it.

I really like the new layout, great job, Stu. Still need to get familiar with some changes, but I'm sure that won't take long.

Hey Stu, this is probably going to sound incredibly trivial...there's no real way to finish that sentence.

On the old forum if you hover the mouse over the "Img" or "URL" boxes underneath it would show what a person has to do to if they wanted to embed an image or put text in a URL, which I liked because I'm a bit hopeless with computers/forums.

Anyway on the new forum you can still hover the mouse over the buttons, but it disappears after a couple of seconds. I don't know if anything can be done to increase the time before it disappears or have a system like the old forum.
Regardless, it's a trivial matter so don't look it too much.

New forum looks great! Particularly like the 'online' banner that goes over a user's name when scrolling through the forum.
