How about a new area of the forum to put all the "sexy talk" that's developping just about everywhere. It is becoming painful to sift through thousands of posts that are not in the sex thread because they take up so much space.

The move could also help "protect" those who are offended by such material, seeing as it is cropping up pretty much everywhere now.

Thing is, quite often the 'sexy talk' stems naturally from the ongoing conversation in a thread, it might stilt things quite a bit to have to put everything sex-related in a specific forum

Then the sex offenders (for want of a better phrase) should take their conversation over there.

Is this is genuine suggestion, or just a general moan?

Slightly sarcastic, but not ironic.

It is genuine, though. I'm really getting tired of sifting through what is on the verge of being cybersex in just about every thread. My suggestion is merely to keep them all in one place, thus keeping the sexy and innocent sides of the forum alive. (Hopefully)

I have an idea of my own. You see, sarcastic, smart-arsed posts bug the hell out of me. How about creating a separate forum for those? Then we may keep the enjoyable and irritating sides of the forum alive. (Hopefully).

To be honest, what you're suggesting sounds like censorship to me, but I'm sure Stu will be along soon to make a judgement of his own.

Here we go again. It's not censorship as such, just separation. My sarcasm was just nasty tone, not ironic at all. And it saves me time reading through the crap that is now popping up. I didn't want to say that, but I have to.

To be fair, there are people on here who may consider what you post to be 'crap', and would love to be able to filter your posts out, rather than having to sift through them. However, on a public forum such as this most people accept there will be some posts they enjoy reading, and some they don't. Rather than employing censorship, or separating the community, the sensible thing to do is to simply skip the posts you don't want to read. It's not too much effort, really.

Failing that, maybe a message board simply isn't for you?

When threads about Frasier end up on the topic of sex, that's off topic. I believe that's why we have an off-topic forum. Now, I'm merely suggesting that all this is piled into one place so that most people who don't want to read don't have to WHEN IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A THREAD THAT OTHERWISE INTERESTS THE READER.

And I know that you all find my posts rubbish, everyone thinks I talk rubbish and that I'm a waste of space, and I probably am. [totalbittersarcasm]Why don't we start a me123 monologue forum? [/totalbittersarcasm].

is it that time of the month already.

Seriously though, it's difficult to stop threads veering off on a tangent when a couple of people start to talk. You can't shift the posts out of a thread and into another section (i don't think), adn even if you could it would get pretty confusing. Just skim past bits that don't appeal to you, that's all i do?

Hmm. You know that incident you apologised for a couple of weeks ago? I think you're having another 'episode'.

I know that's what you all think, poor "me123, he's menatlly unstable".

Well, I'm just making the point that I can't be bothered reading stuff, but if that's what you want, I think you should lock this thread to stop me having my opinion on this matter any more. And because I most probably have a mental illness, I would be happy if you treated me as though I was normal. I won't be posting on this thread any more.

Funnily enough, Stu's just about to implement something that will allow the Mods to do that. But the idea of sifting out posts that certain people may find objectionable and sticking them somewhere else is just ludicrous.

Me123, take the Doctor Who thread for example. It's been going for over a year and has knocked up almost 6000 posts, but you can't seriously expect every single of one of them to conform to the subject matter indicated in the thread title? Do you for example think that it's wrong that we may veer off and talk about what we did at the weekend, what we watched on telly last night, etc? Should every post have to be about Doctor Who? I also think that the joy of the off-topic forum is that you can get to know more about other forum members (they're personalities, hobbies, etc), which you could never really do to the same effect if all talk was restricted to Frasier or one rigid topic. And all the 'sex talk' is (I think) only meant in a jokey, light-hearted way, and if it doesn't appeal to you, just don't cotribute and scroll down. That's what I do when a thread veers off and doesn't interest me.

And you're input on here isn't 'crap', I assure you.

in fact the Who thread has currently been off-topic this afternoon, debating the merits of soap and 'beautiful' people  - it'll sharp get back on topic when new Who news emerges, for sure.

It veers off-topic all the time, and I'm glad of that. It wouldn't be half as interesting and popular if it didn't.

Excellent post Cakey, re-enforcing my point. By it's very nature, a public forum such as this will have threads that veer off topic from time to time. That's because we're human beings, not robots.

I don't think all of Chris' input is crap either; it's just these hissy fits from time to time that bug me.

I think Chris' point was that he doesn't want the topic at hand to veer off in a direction he doesn't like, rather than straying off topic in general.

Just to throw in my two cents...

To say that talking about sex on a Frasier forum is off-topic isn't quite right, as well over 50% of the episodes talk very frankly about sex and people's sex lives. In fact, to say over 50% is like saying over 50% of Jean-Claude Van Damme's films probably won't win an Oscar. If anything, it's more on-topic to talk about sex on this forum than to discuss the merits of Ham Radio. :D Take that part of the post as being written with tongue in cheek in an effort to lighten the mood, and with no offense or disrespect meant to anyone.

There's nothing wrong with discussing sex as an extension to an existing topic, as it's something that affects all our lives and is getting to be ever more prominent in the world we live in. Having said that, there have been a few more explicit threads which have rightly been moved to their own topic so as to warn the younger posters on this site, stemming from an initial question by BGF I believe.

A very sensible post there DHP. I wanted to make the point that there's plenty of sex in Frasier itself (just watch Frasier Gotta Have it or She's The Boss for proof of that!).

Cakey mentioned above that it's all been of a good-hearted, jokey nature and your post seems to re-enforce that opinion. Some people are just more sensitive than others I suppose.

Having said that, there have been a few more explicit threads which have rightly been moved to their own topic so as to warn the younger posters on this site, stemming from an initial question by BGF I believe.

I was merely saying that the direction is inappropriate on a public forum where young children and people who are offended by such content can easily view it without any prior warnings as to the content (other than BGF thread). A perfectly valid idea, implemented on other forums for such a reason. I would happily have indulged in some conversation on such a thread if I felt I had a fair point to make.

Of course, I've been put in my place, but I'm sure such a suggestion by anyone else would have been taken much more seriously.

But the moderators here are not a substitute for parents. There are hundreds and thousands of other websites with far more explicit content than the discussion here that young children can access, and they are equally warning-free (I'm not talking about porn or sex sites here - just general discussion forums).
