I Love Lucy

Postby Bee Gees Fan » Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:16 pm

I am in the United States at the moment and purchased the first season of I Love Lucy. (I've seen a few episodes from previous visits.)

I think it's quite cute and entertaining. I find the situations that Lucy gets into amusing - in an episode I saw today she thought her husband was trying to murder her. In another one, she somehow got a trophy stuck on her head.

It seems to have been quite influential/popular back in the day. Any thoughts on it?

(Also, Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) was quite nice-looking!)

One of my all time favorite sitcoms.

Desi Arnaz was a very handsome man. Though from things I've read, not exactly the nicest guy in the world.

Definitely popular - it was massive in its time. Consistently top rated show during its run. Certainly influential. It's often been parodied or given a nod in many modern shows to this day.

I was watching That 70's Show the other day and forgot the really funny parody they did. Kurtwood Smith makes an awesome Fred.

The bit over the end credits is especially hilarious.

My ten-year-old brother is obsessed with this show, which is vaguely disconcerting.

Don't think I've ever seen an episode of it in full, only the odd clip here and there.

Fully aware though of how influential of it was, virtually creating the TV sitcom

Reading about the show reminded me of the scene in Rat Race where Cuba Gooding Jr's driving a bus load of dressed up Lucy fans to a convention.... :)

I Love Lucy is such an iconic show. So many people know its references.

Of course, I'm a fan of the trademark episodes, such as Vitameatavegamin.

Vitameatavegimin is my favorite episode. Though ranking right up there is the one where Lucy and Ethel dress as martians and several of the ones when they are in Hollywood.
