I'm sat on my sofa with my DVD of Roseanne on pause, posting on FO and facebook alternatively and chain smoking.

This is an extremely rare event, and I'd like to make the most of it. I'd like to go off on my own, with my camera. Somewhere far away. As a new driver, the prospect is a little scary, but I'm wondering about going to Seaham (right up in Northern England), or possible to Norfolk, or North Wales. I have experience of driving 200+ miles now, but Seaham is 360, North Wales is 320 and Norfolk is... well, I dunno, but still quite a few. Would I be taking on too much, I wonder?

Any particular reason for Seaham? It's a nice place mind. The whole Northumbrian area would probably appeal to you if you feel you can go that distance. You'd probably get good value from making the trip.

How about going right up into Scotland? :D

Seaham is world-famous for interesting sea glass. There was a Victorian glass factory there, and the glassblowers would get rid of whatever they had left at the end of the day by dumping it in the sea! There are loads of weird colours and shapes. It also looks pretty good for photography, judging by some images I found on Flickr. Is Bamburgh Castle (did I spell that right?) around that area too? That's always in a couple of the images in the Landscape Photographer of the Year book.

Scotland is a bit too far to go for a few days - in fact, so's Seaham, really. I'd spend a heck of a long time driving, and not much time actually there. I'm now thinking that maybe Cornwall would be a good choice, actually.

Yes it is.

I guess cornwall might make sense to save too much travelling. I always forget how much further it is down to Dorset way. It'd take at least three or four hours for me to get up to Northumbria even from where i am.

Yes, I've only been to Cornwall once, and didn't get to see St Michael's Mount, amongst other places. My biggest memory of it, actually, is almost getting run over by a crazy woman on a mobility scooter, in Perranporth. A couple of years later, the same woman was on the national news - here's the story! :D

I've just written a book proposal, I intend to send it to a publisher within the next few days. I've never done one before, so I'm not sure whether it's okay or not. How long do I have to wait for a reply, I wonder? I suppose I'd better start preparing myself for disappointment now...

Good luck! Barney might know some of the answers to your questions. He's had some stuff published.

Best of luck. Hopefully you'll find some publishers who, while maybe not finding it their particular thing, can give constructive criticism. Have you got a whole bunch of publishers ready to contact?

As Cat says, Barney sounds like the one to ask about it.

Thank you. I'm going to start with Dovecote Press. They specialise in books about different areas of England, and by coincidence, they're based in Dorset. The book I'm hoping to create is about the Isle of Purbeck, my little corner of Dorset. I've looked over some of their titles, and they seem to have a range of guidebook-type publications and photographic books.

I do have a list of others, so I've prepared myself for disappointment and will keep trying if Dovecote reject it. :D

Any hints, Barney? :)

I am trying to plan some sort of tropical beach vacation. The problem is that the only time we can really go is March and that's spring break time around here. The airfare is insane. Over $700.00 to fly to Florida. I could drive there for less. Much less! (it usually costs around $400.00). It's getting really frustrating.

I am at home trying to figure out how to mount the motor on the small indoors remote controlled aircraft I just bought.

My boyfriend has just bought a smartphone/tablet-controlled drone, and it's so cool  . Also loud as all hell and changes the room climate from OK to windstorm when you use it indoors.

Working on a feature for Drunk Monkeys, watching "What Dreams May Come" for some damn reason. I ought to make dinner soon. I eat entirely too late, sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning, but I might break away early to shower and fix something.

This is definitely one of those nights where I don't feel much like cooking.
