I hate such mini-polls. 1,012 out of 314,000,000 Americans...
"For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points."
Oh really!?!?

My simple mind was hoping that such small number of people could not representative for the whole nation.
Well, another hope gone...

And your point is?
I can understand the suspicion, but you know it's not simply a one-off poll? Is your background in mathematics - specifically statistical analysis?
Gallup have been creating and analysing poll data for years, and they have a pretty good grasp of the science behind it.
Example: Gallup accuracy records for polling US presidential election results. How many people do you think they asked to gather those figures?
Gallup are well respected statisticians. It might not be 100% perfect, but you can run a line through their results and find the trends that get backed up by other means. Tell me it's useless when you've asked 314,000,000 people, every day, and show me the different graph you get.
I'd be interested in Wezzo's thoughts (if you're still around).
