I only started using Firefox a month or so ago, although I didn't previously use IE except at work. Probably exaggerated a bit by the media - bashing Microsoft is one of their favourite passtimes.
As for online banking phishing scams, I almost got taken in by a Halifax one a few months back.
The only difference between the fake site and the real site was the url started off HTTP instead of HTTPS ('S' stands for 'secure', I believe). I've decided the only way to be totally safe now is to get rid of all my online accounts, which I've since done, and queue up with the pensioners at the branch itself. At least I get to overhear good recipes for Bran loaf whilst I'm waiting...
