Appeal over Aborigine rape ruling

 I was gobsmacked when I heard this News report today! A ten year old girl is gang-raped, all of the nine men involved confess, and none of them are jailed... apparently because the girl 'probably agreed to have sex with them all'. She's ten - she probably didn't even really know what sex was!

What makes it worse is that apparently she was gang-raped at the age of seven too, was moved away from her home for a while, and then returned, where it happened again.

I find it incomprehensible that these men weren't sent to prison.

Yeah, it's ice. 4 inches of snow is nothing! I could drive in 4 inches of snow standing on my head, in reverse with my eyes closed!

I've had sex offenders try to tell me that 8 and 9 year old girls "seduced" them! GIVE ME A BREAK! These are guys that I really have to restrain myself from! I generally want to jump over my desk and strangle the fucking life out of them! That's why I don't supervise sex offenders!

No, me either. Paedophiles and people who are cruel to animals are the two groups that I wouldn't think twice about smashing over the head with a large brick if I saw them in action. :x

Just seen a News report about technology in Britain, which had some figures that surprised me. Apparently, the UK is ahead of everywhere else when it comes to digital TV take-up. By last year, 76% of homes had digital TV, now the figure is even higher. In the US, it's 61% and in Germany it's 24%.

I wonder if this is because our analogue signal is being switched off in a year or two? Is this happening in other countries, or is our take-up of digital so high because we have no choice?

Other figures in the report:

Mobile phone connections
UK: 115 for every 100 people
Italy 139 for every hundred
US - 78 for every hundred.

Broadband
UK 52%
US 51% of homes have Broadband
... but ours is slower, apparently!

Use of Social Networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace - UK 39%, Canada 53%, Germany 12%

Sorry, this has probably bored you all rigid, but the 'girl-geek' in me found it interesting. :D

Our analog is being switched off in January 09 I think. People will have to get with the digital or be screwed!

115 for every 100? That's just silly but apparently the Italians are even sillier with 139 per 100! Who needs that many phones? You have one and take it everywhere! That's what I do. MAYBE two if you have one for business and one for personal but who needs more than that?

I know, it's crazy, isn't it?! I assume they're counting 'pay as you go' not just contract, I don't know if you have the same system in the US? I imagine a lot of people - teenagers especially, perhaps - have a 'pay as you go' phone, then just buy another one when a new phone that they like comes out. Presumably that means they have several 'active' Sim cards, with different phone numbers.

Also, some companies have schemes where they send out more than one Sim card if you register with them - presumably in the hope that they will be given to other people and used.

 I think my husband and I may have contributed to the 115 phones for every 100 people. We have two phones each (one for work and one personal), which we both hate and if all 4 ring at once, it's a cacophony of irritating ringtones. Add to that all the bally rechargers, boxes and assortment of cr@p that accompanies them which clutter up the house and it's enough to convince me that they're more trouble than they're worth!
I've got a fake laugh with your name written all over it.

I've got several phones, but they're just ones I've had free on Contract over the past few years, and I've never bothered to sell - they don't have Sim cards in. If I could find all the chargers, I'd probably give them to charity.

Court rule that child must be named Gregory

These parents called their child 'Friday', and he was even baptised with that name. Now, I can't say that would be the first choice as a name in my mind, but surely it should be up to the parents, not the courts? :?

But yet, celebrities can name their kids goofy ass stuff like Apple, Coco, Suri and Dweezel!

It's nothing I'd name my kid but there are far worse names out there than Friday!
