I don't like the last chapter with Harry trying to bring Sirius back from the dead, but I have no problems with the Dumbledore parts. They're very important, and I love them. Surely, you don't have a problem with the prophecy revelation?

I have a HUGE problem with the prophecy. It was dumb!

God Almighty, this makes Shakespeare look like Harry Potter. It was so difficult to get your head round - perhaps a little too complicated. The author's range was astonishing - the narrative, genre, character's and setting was constantly shifting. A superb novel - and one that I feel very proud of myself for getting through.

Is that the one made up of a selection of stories set in different times but with various links between them? I remember reading some very positive reviews about it.

Yep, that's the one. I read it on the strength of all the praise it received (and it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize too). It's certainly a very original, brilliantly written novel, and I'd highly recommend it.

Because it was just a dumb prophecy. The whole book led up to this stupid "revelation" that wasn't even really a revelation. And the whole love will save everything crap just annoys me.

But the prophecy had major consequences for the last 2 books (Harry has to be the one to finsih Voldermort), so from that point, it was integral to the plot. I think it's better than the ending to 'Half Blood Prince' anyway.

well, really...wouldn't be right if I gate crashed the Dr Who thread and had a debate on the credibility of William Shatner as a Shakespearian actor.

Well, now onto the last book I read.

Role of Honour John Gardner's fourth James Bond book (written 1984) but not the best (probably Licence Renewed) but it has some moments. Just not many.

6/10

Ok then. Sometimes it's difficult to convey such things via a keyboard!

I'm in a really crappy mood right now and it isn't taking much to set me off.

Apologies for upsetting you.

It is difficult to convey on a keyboard. I know topics meander. Shouldn't have opened (or indeed typed) my big mouth.

well, thanks MC...I have aspired somewhat to my hero. :)

I've got the cover of Role of Honour below. Sadly, it's the best thing of the book.

Fear not, I shan't ruin it. I'm moving onto Scorpius, it'll be the first one other than the first four that I've read of Gardner's.

Who else has read A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle?

Great book. I loved little Charles Wallace.
