Looking online McClory kept trying to remake Thunderball into the 90's as well as Warhead -Warhead 2000 AD (as it's cited on Wikipedia). So he had quite the Thunderball-bug up his rear.

Maybe good thing he didn't remake OHMSS or From Russia With Love.

Hehe, I read your comments on that - you're really not a fan of that film are you. I think it was one of the least enjoyable Bond flicks of the Connery era, but I still enjoy it.

I think McClory had joint rights on Thunderball with Saltzman and Broccoli which is why he kept trying to remake it I imagine. Good thing he wasn't let loose on the classics you mentioned above; maybe he'd have had an android Red Grant fighting Bond on the Orient Express...

Android Grant...God forbid or maybe Polar Bears that fire rockets on the slopes of Piz Gloria in OHMSS.

I'm sorry that I don't like Thunderball. I went into it this week thinking...right give it a chance and as always I got bogged down. Though from what I understand, it had a troubled background. I think it went through a director change, hundreds of hours of underwater footage that had to be cut and so on.

Connery's best was probably From Russia With Love.

I do love FRWL but I'd say You Only Live Twice was my Connery favourite. I'm not sure of the artistic merits but I've got strong memories of seeing it as a kid which tends to count for a lot in my book. Same goes for Live and Let Die, my favourite Rog movie.

My dad likes Diamonds Are Forever, I watched that to death as a kid being one of 3 Bond vids we had. Consequently I sort of dislike it on that basis. :) It sort of grates. Bizarrely my dad doesn't watch LALD now as when he went to the cinema and it was a double-bill he'd have to watch LALD before the 2nd film. And this seems to be often in 1973.

There we go. I haven't seen the spoof Bond, CR'67. I saw a bit and it was just as well I was drunk.

I've got a soft spot for DAF. There are so many iconic and memorable moments, even though the film's not that great as a whole. I remember talking about the amazing car stunt in the alley at school the day after it was first shown on TV - everyone was bowled over by it! It was the 70s though...

Same here. The bits I saw were horrendous. I wanted to give it a go seeing as David Niven was the man Fleming had in mind when writing Bond, but I couldn't stomach more than a few minutes. Just awful, even for a spoof.

Part of it's trouble was it went through 7 directors. But yes, even for a spoof it sucked.

No, not yet. I don't know when I will. Somewhat hesitant about it.

Yes I saw that. I was amazed he was still alive!

I wonder if his obituary was titled "Dr No...vital signs"

God, this thread is depressing! It seems to have turned into a place for announcing the deaths of more and more of the actors. It reminds me of when Frasier went to the movies, and heard the old ladies saying with the arrival of each new actor on screen, "My God, he looks so young! He's dead now, you know..."

You know, I'm not even sure I've ever seen Thunderball.

It's by far my least favorite of the Connery Bond movies. But it's better than Quantum of Solace which pretty much sucked.

I'm watching Die Another Day right now.

I thought Quantum of Solace was at least marginally better than Casino Royal. Daniel Craig is a poor Bond, though. Connery was middling. Moore and Lazenby sucked. To me, and to much of my generation, I'm sure, Pierce Brosnan will always be the quintessential James Bond. 4 films was too short a run for such a great adaptation of the character.

Connery will always be my favorite Bond. Brosnan runs a close second.

I quite liked Casino Royale. I don't mind Craig's Bond. He's not very "Bond-like" but that's not his fault. It's the way his Bond is written. I just thought Quantum of Solace was boring and pointless. The plot was horrible. And even though I own it, I have no desire to watch it again any time soon.

I always go back and forth on who I like more, Brosnan or Connery.

I also seem to think, the older I get that Timothy Dalton was a good Bond who got stuck with less-than-stellar scripts. He was the first attempt at a somewhat darker Bond, and it's a shame that people reacted to it so poorly. I'm almost ready to say Dalton was better than Craig is now.

Roger Moore is my least favorite Bond which irritates me since he made the most movies!

Agreed. I think he's the worst of the bunch. Maybe they'll bring back Brosnan. I don't think he's done anything worthwhile since Bond---a good example of Shelley Long syndrome.

Yeah, he really bombed with that little Mamma Mia project.

Brosnan is very, very unlikely to be back as Bond, even if things played out in such a way that Craig couldn't end up doing the next one (never say never - when you see what Connery ended up doing).

Brosnan has done some good work since Bond ("The Matador" and "Seraphim Falls" were both excellent and generally well-received), but I doubt we'll ever see him come back to Bond again.

It's nothing against Daniel Craig. He's a fine actor. I don't even blame him completely for my lukewarm responses to his two Bond films. More than anything I think the writing and direction for both were just awful.
