Paul B wrote:The Shins - Phantom Limb

Excellent song from their latest album, definitely worthy of being the first single. "Pam Berry" is a great lead-in, too.

The best from the album, surely.

Bruce Springsteen - "Sherry Darling"

One of Bruce's funniest.

That's a good song.

Not the best of Johnny's songs. Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire and some of his lesser known songs outrank Boy Named Sue.

Although for pure "fun" Boy Named Sue is pretty enjoyable.

That's what I meant, it's fun. I also like One Piece at a Time.

Shel Silverstein wrote A Boy Named Sue, and I heard he was supposed to have based it on Jean Shepherd, the radio guy who wrote and narrated A Christmas Story.

Boy Named Sue, played live at San Quentin, is a classic version though.

David Bowie-America

It's actually a Simon and Garfunkel song but Bowie's version that he did for "The Concert for New York City" is great.

Renaud - "Je vis caché"

The only non-English speaking artists I'm a fan of. This and "Manhattan-Kaboul" are my favourites of his.

Sufjan Stevens - Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois

A nice little song nestled between two amazing ones. I love this entire album, and it makes me want to visit Illinois all the more.

Illinois? Aside from Chicago, Illinois is pretty much flat and ugly! And I'm not just saying that because Illinois and Wisconsin are bitter rivals. It's really got naught to recommend itself. Again, aside from Chicago which is a really fun city.

Is there any particular reason you are drawn to Illinois?

And I'm about to listen to some James Taylor.

I hope you listen to Fire and Rain! :) I really like that song. River Phoenix liked it too - it's played in the film Running On Empty, which he stars in. That's a good film, that is.

I'm listening to Something in the Air by Thunderclap Newman. There's a lovely piano bit in the middle of the song.

I'm not sure what it is really... sorry I can't be of more help!

Anyways, last listened to "In the Backseat" by The Arcade Fire. I'm not usually a fan of female vocals, but this song is beyond beautiful.

Barenaked Ladies - "Another Postcard"

The weakest of their pop-rap triumvirate, but still good fun.

More Than a Woman - The Tavares (it's a Bee Gees song, though!)

My Sweet Lord - George Harrison

"Hare Krishna..."

I think they mention the Dalai Lama as well.

The Pixies - Cecilia Ann

A funky song that inspired Murray Gold's wonderful piece at the start of Rose.
