Well, I for one remember the last time I had an illness that made me miss work, it was in 1996, yet I remember it quite well. At one time my body temperature was quite high, I don't remember that part very clearly but my girlfriend told me that I kept saying things that made very little sense. The doctor came, it was a Sunday, and I was injected with antibiotics. I think I would know if I had never been sick a day in my life. For one thing, I'd remember countless people telling me, "I don't think I've seen you being sick..." I still remember when I was in bed with chicken pox even though I can't tell exactly when it was, just that I was still in grade school.

The Expendables 7/10

I heard good things about this movie. I expected it to be more fun than it was. It was ok but I wanted more.

 A couple of pretty decent films on last telly last night.

30 Days Of Night.A group of vampires decend on a small Alaska town during winter, where the sun doesn't rise for 30 days.

Pretty decent.
Quite fast paced, lots of vamps.
I particulaly enjoyed the scene where the camera pans up the main street from above while the vampires are making their big attack. It was an interesting vision to see so many little bits of action going on at once.

My one small (not even a complaint) slightly niggly negative comment is that the premis of the 30 day night, although pretty cool, didn't really contribute all that much.
Now and then, seemingly at random, a title would come up saying (for instance) Day 21. But it seemed that what happened right before the title was what was still happening after the title, even though the title indicated a lapse of 5/6 days.
I didn't get any real sense that these people had been in a dangerous situation for all that time. I think that everything involving the vampires could have taken place over one night.

But it's a pretty minor complaint.

The 2nd feature was The Girl Next Door.
I was quite happilly surprised with this one.
Matt is a grade A student. He dreams of going to Georgetown University and one day becoming president.
He and his two friends are a bit on the geeky side.
One day a girl named Danielle moves in next door (she's house sitting for her aunt) and she catches Matt looking at her as she undresses in her bedroom.
She embarasses him in return, and they become friends.
She teaches him to have a bit more fun in his life, to be a little more daring from time to time.
It's then that one of his two friends discovers that she's a porn star.
Faced with this, the rest of the film is about Matt trying to choose between his academic and political ambition, and the girl he's fallen for. Or try to find a way to get it all.

IMHO the film was stolen by Danielle's porn producer, a guy called Kelly.
I don't know the name of the guy who played him, but it was done BRILLIANTLY.
The word "DUDE!" was said in admiration of him more than once.
One of the coolest fothermuckers ever to appear on screen :D

Yep, it's a teenage coming of age sex comedy, but there were some great moments and a story that was good enough to hold attention, even if it did get a little bit far fetched at times (but that's why they call it fiction, right? ).

So two great films there folks, if you get a chance, check them out 8-)

I caught that on tv yesterday. It was certainly a let down. Can't see me rushing to check out the sequel.

The blu-ray version was on sale the other day when I was at Wal-Mart. I actually had it in my cart and then I put it back thinking I could probably just catch it on Netflix. I'm glad I didn't buy it because I really don't have a lot of desire to ever watch it again.

Watched the original black and white version of Miracle on 34th Street yesterday. Natalie Wood was so adorable in that movie. Such a shame that Robert Wagner murdered her and got away with it.

Even though they finally amended the death certificate from 'accident' to 'undetermined' last year, it's amazing how this has been covered up for so long. So many inconsistencies/contradictions between witness statements and official police reports. Seems like old Bob'll be another rich and famous bloke able to use his money and influence to die and get away with it.

I found The Cabin in the Woods to be a real mixed bag - clever, but utlimately a disappointment overall. My review is here - http://ben-blogofben.blogspot.co.uk/201 ... 2-dir.html

I've got to say, Beverly D Angelo is foxy as hell in that movie.
Especially in that green skirt and white blouse.

Aside from the on and off viewing of A Christmas Story throughout last night and today, I finally watched Dark Knight Rises tonight.

Good movie but still not my favorite of of the Bale Batman series. Seems most people thought this was the best. I still prefer Batman Begins over this and The Dark Knight. I did really like Bane though. He was much less "cartoonish" than previous villains. I thought it took a long time to really get going. The first half didn't have enough "Batman" in it for me. I like Batman in my Batman movies (even though I HATE Christian Bale's "Clint Eastwood" Batman voice). Overall, I'd give it an 8/10.

I love Christmas Vacation. Chevy Chase's rant scene in that movie is only topped by Steve Martin's rant scene in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

I love A Christmas Story. I'm probably one of the few people in Britain who have actually seen the film, it's not well-known here at all. If I hadn't happened to see it on TV one Christmas in America, I'd still be in the dark about it.

The Santa in that film is mean! If I was a young child, I'd probably find him scary.

And of course, I've been viewing Home Alone (1 and 2) over the holidays.

Woggle, you were on about catching up with some older Jackie Chan stuff. Film Four showed Snake In the Eagles Shadow last night. Don't know if you caught it. It's bound to be shown again by them if not.

Paul, did you catch Ghibli's Arrietty on Film Four? The dubbed version was shown yesterday and the original japanese language with subtitles is on later this week.
