Frasier: The Eighth and Final Season

Postby LeCigareVolant » Sun Nov 17, 2013 3:52 am

No one's a bigger fan of Frasier than I, but I'd be lying if I didn't concede there's an obvious drop-off after Season 7's fantastic finish. I thought it'd be fun to put together a hypothetical "Eight and Final Season," one that would've rivaled (if not surpassed) the quality of the first seven. The main goal was preserving continuity while trimming the fat, but some episodes were just too funny to pass up.

And the Dish Ran Away With the Spoon (mostly for continuity)
Taking Liberties (continuity, end of Niles-Daphne-Mel conflict)
Frasier's Edge (I know some people hate this ep but it has really grown on me)
Hungry Heart (continuity + a funny Kenny episode)
Hooping Cranes
Daphne Returns
The First Temptation of Daphne
Bla-Z-Boy (decent ep and breaks up the Daphne-heavy arc)
The Proposal
The Guilt Trippers
Moons Over Seattle
The Ring Cycle
Kissing Cousin (not crazy about Zooey but Kenny's great in this)
Trophy Girlfriend (hilarious)
The Babysitter (Ronny arc begins)
Guns 'N Neuroses (a nice goodbye to Lilith)
High Holidays (hilarious)
Caught in the Act (Laurie Metcalf is a gem)
Match Game (Charlotte arc begins)
Miss Right Now (Charlotte arc + great performance by Tilly)
And Frasier Makes Three
Crock Tales (better than the average flashback ep)
Goodnight, Seattle

I'm curious which eps you'd substitute in your Eighth and Final Season.

I mostly agree, though I wouldn't touch Caught in the Act with a ten-foot pole. Also, I'd hate to part with the Claire arc, since I think she was one of the best (if not the best) women Frasier ever dated.

I love Caught in the Act. I could do without Frasier's Edge, Trophy Girlfriend and The Babysitter though.

I've developed an allergy to Trophy Girlfriend (it grosses me out plus it's far from being witty in general), I find Frasier's Edge boring, The Babysitter is so so, I find Caught in The Act amusing especially the ending when Frasier is actually caught in the act.

If I were going to compile a list of what were the funniest episodes of the last few seasons while still establishing continuity, I couldn't do that. But I can put together a list of what was funny from those rogue Seasons 8, 9 and 10 (I don't count 11 because that felt like a classic Frasier season). Here goes my attempt:

Taking Liberties.
The New Friend.
The Show Must Go Off.
Sliding Frasier's.
Hungry Heart.
Daphne Returns.
The First Temptation of Daphne.
Bla-Z-Boy.
Mother Load.
The Proposal.
Wheels of Fortune.
Three Blind Dates.
Moons Over Seattle.
Proxy Prexy.
Star Mitzvah.
Bristle While You Work.
Daphne Does Dinner.
Fraternal Schwinns.
Roe to Perdition.
Fathers and Sons.
I'm a big Frasier fan who wants to talk to all you other Frasier fans out there.
About why its the best sitcom ever.

I pretty much agree, but I experience the same allergy to Trophy Girlfriend as Patrick. I also would include "Boo!" and "Farewell Nervosa." What happens in Caught in the Act, again?

Frasier gets caught in Nanny G's show and ends up onstage, dressed up like the most monstrous baby imaginable, diaper included. I think it's probably Frasier's lowest point, though it has some stiff competition.

The problem wasn't bad episodes or arcs for me(I don't really think there are any). It was more the really great setups that didn't end up going anywhere. If Frasier could've gotten back together with Claire after the log cabin of ex-wives, and Martin could've stayed with Cora Winston and ultimately married her, also forcing the Frasier/Cam friendship to become a permanent thing, that would be my fantasy final season. I do like Laura Linney though and it's too bad they didn't do a reunion special about them getting married, maybe coming back to Seattle to do so.

That was definitely an underused area to mine for stories.

Not a bad list in the OP. Could do without Frasier's Edge and and Trophy Girlfriend, so i'd immediately switch them out for Roe To Perdition and Fathers And Sons.

I think it's my favourite from S10.
