Fave Martin quote?

Postby cwhellfukk » Sat Jan 19, 2008 7:51 pm

I'm partial to the contemptous "how's Lord Weirdo?", referring to Ferguson the butler.

It's not comedic in the slightest but that's why I love it so much. This is my favourite Martin quote and his delivery of it is awesome.

Martin: "Let me tell you something. One time when I was on the force, I saw a guy shoot somebody. When we caught him, I started to read him his rights, but he slipped out of his cuffs and he swung at me so I didn't get a chance to finish. Two months later, I'm on the stand, and his lawyer asks me if I'd read his rights in full. Now, if I say no this guy walks, and this guy has been in and out of jail all his life, he could have read ME his rights! So I say, "yes, I did. I read them in full." I lied under oath. Now you might think that I did an unethical thing but there's not a doubt in my mind that I did the right thing".

For the more serious momemts, it is the "toast" Martin gives Daphne in SB,SB. Overall, I love his line from The Two Mrs. Cranes when, after being informed that Frasier is living with Niles and Daphne temporarily while being separated from Maris, Martin repsonds with "You couldn't stand her either, huh?"
"...Take it from someone who knows: you don't want to spend half your life thinking about a chance you didn't take."

Mine is from the very first episode:

M: We call him 'Eddie Spaghetti.'
D: Why, because he likes pasta?
M: No, because he's got worms.

...I should be dumping the pudding in with the chips! You know, I’ve been having these great ideas all day. I wrote some of them down. There, what do you think this means? 'Dog army'. Oh, that cold medicine I took this morning is making me feel funny. I think I’m going to go sit down for a while.

Martin: Look, all kids are the same. They start out cute and then somewhere along the way, they get into that obnoxious know-it-all stage, and you think they'll never grow out of it.
Frasier: But eventually they do?
Martin: I'm still hoping.

It's damned hard picking any one favorite line by ANY of the characters, but that one so captures Martin's COMPLETE disregard for Frasier's snobby ways that I have to elect it my number one...

One I remember during the episode with the Halloween party at Niles' apartment. Martin is dressed as Sherlock Holmes and he has a conversation with Gil Chesterton, the food critic dressed as an Indian.

Martin: Who are you supposed to be?

Gil: I'm Chingachgook, the last of the Mohicans!

Martin: Well .... that little mystery is solved!

I remember being totally caught off guard and laughing very hard when I saw it.

Was watching Daphne Does Dinner the other night.

This exchange cracks me up:

Frasier: As usual, Frasier has to save the day.
Martin: As usual, Martin has to hear about it!

It's not quite a quote (though there are many I like) but it's when he says

EDIT

aha...it was The Impossible Dream

Martin: You'd think by now I'd know better than to have that third
Slim Jim before going to bed. Couldn't sleep either, huh?
Frasier: No. Frankly, I'm sort of afraid to go back to sleep.
It's that damn dream again.
Martin: Oh, what are you worried about? It's just a dream.
Worst case scenario - the man-eating lion leaps on
top of you and mauls you.
Frasier: I'm sorry, Dad, I wasn't completely truthful with you before.
The dream is really about me in a motel room with a male
companion, Gil Chesterton.
Martin: You don't care if I ever sleep again, do you?

From Lilith Needs a Favor

Martin tells Frasier he isn't good with coming up with excuses on the fly so make sure that he is informed when Lilith arrives so he can be out of the room and not have to deal with her. Frasier tells him Lilith isn't coming until the next day.

Sound cue: Doorbell rings

Lilith is at the door.

Lilith: Hello Martin
Martin: ::panic stricken:: [looks at his wrist as if it has a watch on it] Time to go..... practice my signature! [hustles off down the hallway]

And then there's the whole Fountain Head speech which I can't quote right now because I can't seem to access any of my transcript sites!
