Episode Synopsis

In the second half of a two-part episode, Frasier and his ideal woman, Madeline Marshall, share a secluded south seas island retreat next door to Frasier's ex-wife, Lilith, and her new love interest Brian, a seismologist from MIT. At first, Frasier and Lilith seem to be competing against each other in the 'I've done better than you stakes', which results in Frasier pretending to have sex with Madeline convinced that Lilith is doing the same next door. Unfortunately, she appears at the door with Brian and Madeline walks in from the shower, understandably shocked.

Back in Seattle, Frasier tries to make amends on his radio show and succeds in inviting Madeline to dinner. As the two of them begin to get intimate, Madeline wants to make sure things are over between Frasier and Lilith after a bad experience with a divorced man once before. He assures her everything is fine, but as Frasier leaves the room to take Eddie back to his room, Lilith appears at the door, and Madeline walks out. Frasier comes back in and discovers to his horror that Madeline has been replaced by Lilith. She informs him that Brian asked her to marry him, and she accepted and has come to get Frasier's blessing which he gives. Frasier then resolves to take Madeline back for a proper romantic break in Bora-Bora....

Episode Highlights

- Lilith introduces Brian to Madeline and Frasier:
Brian: Your ex-husband - you're making a joke?
Lilith: No, God is.

Lilith: Brian's a seismologist at MIT.
Frasier: Well that's perfect - Brian a seismologist and you having so many faults (!).

Frasier: Lilith is making love in there.
Madeline: I don't hear anything.
Frasier: Exactly.

- Frasier 'having sex' on the bed as Lilith and Brian appear at the window, and Madeline steps out of the shower.
Madeline: Well obviously you don't need me (!).

Daphne: You know, when I was younger I always wanted to be a ballerina.
Niles: So did Maris - but she could never keep her weight up.

- As Madeline opens the door to Lilith:
Madeline: What are you doing here?
Lilith: I'm here on a layover - and judging by Frasier's trademark mangos on a stick - so are you.

- When Frasier thinks Madeline is in the chair and it turns out to be Lilith.

- Daphne, Martin and Niles returning to see Frasier hugging 'Madeline' who turns out to be Lilith.

- Martin's reaction to hearing Lilith is getting married again - to someone else.

- The wonderful ending.

Frasier Online Episode Review

The second half of this story is even better than the first, thanks largely to the presence of Lilith and some wonderful lines in an episode that just works from the word go. There are some truly great moments here, particularly in the scene where Frasier goes out of the room and comes back to find Madeline has been replaced by Lilith, and the ending where Frasier has to come to terms with being second in the race to move on is well done. In short, top notch 'Frasier'.

Madeline, Meet Lilith, Nov 28, 2011

Reviewer: Sammy J from Melbourne, Australia

The second half of "Adventures in Paradise" is a gem. But then, what
episode with Bebe Neuwirth isn't? Like the first half, "Part 2" is filled
with character-specific humour that adds layer upon layer to Frasier's
growing relationship plight.
The added addition of the farce in Bora Bora makes this a highlight of
season 2. Frasier goes completely off the deep end trying to ensure
that Lilith doesn't win, and it's hysterical. JoBeth Williams really sells
her character's low-key reactions to all of this, and it feels like a true
shame when the pairing doesn't work out.
The rest of the ensemble are, again, underused, but that's fair
enough in a streamlined episode such as this. "Adventures in
Paradise" is a great example of a two-parter that feels like it has
earned the extended running time, but without ever dragging.
