Episode Synopsis

We begin by seeing Daphne and Niles reciting their wedding vows in a chapel before the camera pulls back to reveal it is the wedding chapel at the Lucky 7 Casino resort in Reno. At the moment they exchange rings, they realise they don't have them - luckily the 'minister' can offer 7 different types of wedding rings for purchase. As Niles is choosing, Daphne's mobile phone rings - it's Roz who wants her to turn on her TV as Roz's building is on the news. Daphne then blurts out that she and Niles went to Reno to get married! On their return to Seattle, they stop off at Frasier's apartment to tell him and Martin the good news, but when they both say they would die if they missed their wedding, Niles and Daphne cover it up by saying that they are getting married in 3 days at a registry office. So their second marriage sees the happy couple accompanied by Frasier, Martin, Roz, Daphne's mother and Alice as their flower girl. However, it seems Mrs Moon thinks they are just getting their licence and insists that they should get married in a church. Daphne tries to placate her by saying they will try to find a church at short notice, leaving her mother to leave in a huff along with Roz and Alice.

While Frasier is asking the minister if he knows any churches that may be available, Daphne has a change of heart and decides they should get married there and then in front of Frasier and Martin.Back at the apartment, Frasier and Martin present the happy couple with their wedding present - an engraved silver frame. Then Daphne's mother arrives, and announces she has changed her mind, so Daphne and Niles decide to make her happy by announcing they are having their marriage ceremony tomorrow. So once again, Niles, Daphne. Mrs Moon and Roz make their way to the registry office (Alice was ill from having eaten the flower petals she was given). This time, they bump into Donny and his fiancee, and end up inviting him to Niles and Daphne's wedding. Finally, the ceremony begins with Niles just about remembering his vows (for the 3rd time) but Daphne just can't go through with the pretence - and then the truth all begins to comes out......

Frasier Online Episode Review

The beginning of Season 10 sees the event that many 'Frasier' viewers have been waiting for - the marriage of Niles and Daphne, although in typical 'Frasier' style nothing quite goes to plan as they happy couple end up having three ceremonies. The episode motors along in fine style, with everyone trying to keep pace with the true state of affairs. There were some very funny moments - the opening scene in the wedding chapel, Daphne finally calling Mr Crane 'Martin', Martin having to make his own lunch - are just some of them, but while the episode as a whole was very amusing it seemed to lack something, some real belly laughs perhaps, that would have made it a classic.

The incredible beaver baby, May 24, 2013

A very enjoyable episode that, again, is slightly hampered by the plot and having to resolve issues set up last season, but does so with some touching and beautiful moments, and some funny stuff for everyone. Highlights include the truly beautiful vows in the opening scene (I would happily adopt those myself) - even if they're said in a tacky Reno ceremony!; Roz being the third person in on the anniversary; the exhaustion of the final ceremony; and the cute tag where an entire fake ceremony is thrown together for the sake of a petal-eating Alice!

It's an odd surprise to see Donny Douglas one last time, in what feels like a weird little guest spot given that it doesn't add a lot of emotional resonance to the piece. But at the same time, it seems fair for a series that has increasingly grown interested in the ramifications of its characters lives to bring back someone who was introduced as a plot impediment. I love when characters break out of their moulds like that. Meanwhile, Gertrude Moon is back for a whole season this time. Look, I actually enjoy her interactions - at least in the first half of the season. Millicent Martin may be stuck with the most shrewish character on the show (depending on how you feel about Julia Wilcox) but she had great fun last season, and this episode introduces the definitely unexpected rivalry between Gertrude and Alice. If nothing else, I enjoy that!

"The Ring Cycle" is light on the belly laughs and it certainly resolves the Niles/Daphne engagement in a way few fans would have predicted. Yet overall I like its aspirations, heralding the start of a season that again takes the quality up a little more from what we've experienced of late.
