Episode Synopsis

Frasier meets Niles for a coffee at Cafe Nervosa, but they can't find a table inside the busy cafe so decide to take a table outside. Niles then poses a deceptively simple question "Are you happy?" after Frasier reminds Niles that it is a year since he moved to Seattle. However, the discussion gets interrupted first by Roz who is meeting a guy at the cafe, and then by a discussion on whether Niles married Maris for the money, and then by rain. After finding a table inside, they then ponder over whether Niles is gay because he said "Wow" when describing Roz's date. However, as Frasier is about to answer Niles' question in comes Daphne and a cranky Martin. After they leave, Frasier tries once again to answer the question but Frasier asks whether Niles is in love with Daphne and then Martin returns and reveals that he was angry because everyone forgot his birthday. The boys are shocked at themselves but resolve to make it up to him by taking him out to dinner. Finally, as the waitress who has been increasingly aggravated by Frasier's quest for the perfect cup of coffee, asks "Now are you finally happy", and Frasier says that he is.

Frasier Online Episode Review

As the season 1 finale, this episode is a perfect end to our first season and Frasier's first year in Seattle. Set in 22 minutes of real time- only one of two 'Frasier' episodes to be done in real time (the other being 'Dinner Party') - the episode highlights almost all of 'Frasier's' strengths - well written with good one-liners, good acting from all involved and some wonderful moments, such as Frasier's quest for the perfect cup of coffee. Although not the best ever episode, a very good episode nonetheless.

Review of My Coffee With Niles, Aug 05, 2012

Reviewer: Autumn from Oakland, CA

A great finale to the first season, My Coffee With Niles does what Frasier sometimes seems to do best-take a simple scenario and create brilliant comedy. Whilst Frasier and Niles sit in Cafe Nervosa with their usual beverages, Niles asks a deceptively simple question "Are you happy?" Finding the answer takes an entire episode.
Set entirely in the coffee shop, this is perhaps one of my favourite Frasier episodes. The premise is great; just an ordinary day for the characters. As usual, there are some great humorous moments, perhaps topped by Martin pretending to be blind in order to allow Eddie entrance into the cafe. One of the best parts of this episode, though, is probably the emotion that creeps in with the humour. As usual, Frasier manages to blend comedy and pathos with equal talent-though this isn't a tearjerking episode at all.
As usual, great comedy. Some personal highlights for me included:
(it starts to rain)
Niles: Is that rain?
Frasier: No, God is crying (!)
Frasier and Martin's argument on "toast sweat" culminating with:
Frasier: Haven't you heard Dad's lectures on toast sweat?! It's the scourge of our times!
And, of course, unforgettably:
Niles: Let's talk about something else. Something light and frothy.
Frasier: I agree. (beat). Are you in love with Daphne?
(Niles spits out his coffee.)
Another great episode and a wonderful finale to the first season.
