Favourite theme tune

Postby Bee Gees Fan » Fri Nov 03, 2006 11:19 pm

I'm posting videos of theme tunes/songs that I've found on youtube, so people can listen to the ones that they haven't heard, and then vote for which one they like the best:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD8ljNobUys (Cheers)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_Ppv4ruor8 (Taxi - this is the closing credits, but it's the same tune as the opening theme.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO9B2w3zAvI (Family Ties)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMCIcCgN8Bo (Mork and Mindy)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aodWKOoniPw (Happy Days)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0RTo-eXgQY (Sanford and Son)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRCT_a92Hro (The Jeffersons)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WowY9_0Pe5A (Friends)

There are loads more I could have chosen, of course. Anyway, my vote goes for the Family Ties theme song, which I love, with the Taxi theme coming second.

Of these, Cheers followed by Taxi.

Diff'rent Strokes would also be up there. :D

Cheers. It's so melodic. I actually had it as my ring tone for a spell a while ago.

What do you guys think of the Family Ties one? I'm just interested, because it's the one I voted for. Although, it was hard to pick, as I love all of them. I just downloaded the Mork and Mindy one today, and it was nice to hear it again (I haven't seen the show since I was about seven.)

Oh I forgot about Scrubs, Strat. Excellant choice.

And the Twin Peaks theme. One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever.

I'm sorry. I didn't want to make the list too long, and went with shows that I knew about. Why don't you create an alternate poll of other shows?

Nah, I'd just vote for ER. It just would have been nice to have more choice.

Doctor Who gets my vote for Best Theme Tune, but of the ones you chose, I also voted for Cheers, although none of them would be particular favourites of mine I'm afraid.

Don't let your opinions of the themes reflect on the show, though. :) Apart from Taxi, I'd also recommend Family Ties to you. It's a very sweet, harmless show. And quite funny, I think.

My vote goes to Happy Days. Cheers is the better theme, but Happy Days is better for me for the sake of nostalgia. However, I think there are many themes out there which are better than all those listed.

Do you like the Family Ties one, DHP?

DW is certainly memorable, but it's not one I really enjoy.

I'm with Cakey here, the Doctor Who theme tune is the ultimate for me. Rousing, exciting, instantly recognisable, pretty much legendary.

But of those listed, I'd have to say Cheers.

I like the older version better. That one is burned into my brain.

Doctor Who is ok and certainly memorable, but there are much better ones out there. I think BGF is right, it's hard to separate the show from the theme tune, but if you consider the theme tune/song on its own as a piece of music in its own right, there are definitely stronger ones than Doctor Who.

Great video that! :) It would be perfect for an ER reunion with all the old characters - although I'm certain that would never happen due to various character deaths and the actors' refusal...

I'm kicking myself, how could I forget about...THE SOPRANOS. Best theme ever. Very long for a TV show, approximatly 1 minute 35 seconds. But it's the best theme ever in my opinion.

The Six Feet Under theme tune is longer by one second :) - and it's excellent, really sets up the magnificent tone of the show.

I love them both - the slower older version wouldn't suit the new series at all, and thankfully they realised that.
