What's so impressive about ordering machiatto?

Oh, that's right, he didn't say 'Macchiato man here' at the coffee house. He said that macchiato men such as himself were spartan and rugged.

Oh yeah, THAT he said to impress her. I thought you meant that he ordered the macchiato to impress her!

Nancy: We’ll go together. What are you having?
Frasier: All right, uh, a macchiato for here.
Nancy: One macchiato for here, and a mocha Valencia to go, please. [to
Frasier] Macchiato man. Don’t meet many of those.
Frasier: No, no, we’re a, a rare breed. Spartan... rugged...
Wow, between school and basketball, when am I...going to be able to watch Frasier!!! Oh, don't worry I'll make time.

Sherry wrote:not a quote of a drink. but I loved coffee ordering in My coffee with Niles - when he never quite gets what he asks for!

He asks her to go through today's specials and he has reason for not ordering. Brazillian she offers, not happy with their policy towards the rainforest he replies, she offers Costa Rican - not happy with their policy on blah blah, he responds ... eventually she offers him Hawaiin ... unless they've slaughtered too many macadamia nuts!!

and when he asks the sparky waitress where his drink is she says "we've got a team of experts on it!!"

but going back to the flashback scene in "You Can Go Home" he berrates Niles for ordering fancy coffee and hopes he never sees the day when a good cup of American coffee isn't good enough for him ... ahhh Frasier - such a slave to trend!

Great episode, love that scene. I also like Niles's "Double fat, half caff, no foam latte"! (or whatever it was meant to be).

lol i think its's 'double-short, low fat, no foam latte" which is mistaken as 'double-short, non fat, low foam latte!!" lol i love that bit!!

[Coutre Roune Château] Neuf du Pape '47.
Champagne '88 (i presume niles canceled the '85?)

Niles: It was ripe, round and thoroughly seductive. I said
Australian Shiraz. [holds up his card]

Frasier: Well, contrary to my brother I thought it was dark, dusky
and supple, but I also said Australian Shiraz." [holds up
card]

Napa Valley Merlot

hehe yeap.

transcript: whine club

Master: Gentlemen?
Niles: It was jammy, plummy, dense and chewy. There is no doubt
in my mind that it was a Napa Valley Merlot. [holds up card]
Master: You, Frasier.
Frasier: A nice big wine with excellent heft. It's Napa all right,
but as I always say, why go Merlot when you can call a Cab?
[holds up card]
Master: I thought this bottle might trip you up. Gentlemen, it's
actually a blend. A forty-five percent Cabernet...
Frasier: And?!
Master: And... fifty five percent Merlot! Niles wins by ten percent.

Frasier grimaces as Niles goes over to him amid the applause.

Frasier: Well, Niles, congratulations, obviously the better man won.
Niles: Frasier, please...
Frasier: No, Niles, don't be modest.
Niles: No, I wasn't, they're starting my inauguration.

Niles sits in a throne-like chair in which he is hailed with the
medal of the cork and a song to the tune of "Rule Brittania!"

Club: Hail corkmaster,
The master of the cork,
He knows which wine goes with fish or pork!

Hail corkmaster,
The master of the cork...

They carry on singing to Frasier's anger as we FADE OUT.

The 1945 Chateau Petrus will run you around $3000 a bottle.
It's not the most expensive bottle, but it's close enough.
