Depressing thing on the viewer rating averages...

Postby hansenkd » Mon Sep 03, 2012 2:37 am

As many of you know, I was involved in transcribing Seasons 9-11 for The Frasier Files. I just looked at the list of average viewer ratings for all the episodes and realized that the bottom three were all transcribed by me. I hope I put them in as good a light as possible. The highest rated ep I transcribed was "A Man, A Plan, and a Gal: Julia."

A Man, A Plan, and a Gal: Julia is quality, so no wonder it's highly rated. I haven't looked at the scores for a while so no idea which are rated the lowest, but, if you were given the task of transcribing crappy episodes, then i wouldn't take it to heart for their low grades. If you had the misfortune of transcribing Some Assembly Required then there was no way for you to save that turkey. :D

Yep--the three lowest-rated were "Some Assembly Required," "A New Position for Roz," and "Detour," and I did them all. I'm actually rather fond of "Detour" (mainly because I adore Charlotte), so I disagree with its low rating. I just re-read my transcript for ANPFR. I had done it before it became so universally reviled, and I thought I did a reasonably decent job of making it look as good as I could (I smiled at my own rendering of Gil's toast: Gil's overwrought 'heterosexuality' is making everyone uncomfortable.)

I remember being really annoyed at having to do SAR. I wasn't up next in the rotation, but for some reason, David and Mike didn't get it recorded properly. I had just done "Roe to Perdition," which is a fine episode, and I remember cringing through SAR and absolutely dreading having to actually type those lines--but I got stuck with it.

Incidentally, my first one was "Don Juan in Hell Part 2." Talk about a baptism by fire!

I like Detour as well but it's not very popular around here.

I can't find much fault with it either. It is simply the melancholic undertone that prevents me from watching it again. Finally he meets a woman he really likes, she likes him back, and still it is not going to work out. It is all a bit too sad. 'Detour' is of course closely connected to the show's very last moment, when we find out that it IS going to work out after all, but the whole think is kind of sad. The family is split apart, everything changes, *deep sigh*.

(Of course, after the last few episodes you start all over again and all of a sudden the world makes sense again 8-) .)

I am surprised 'Hot Ticket' made it to 4th worst episode. I watched it a few weeks back, and even though not one of my favourites by far, I still like it.

I don't mind Detour, either.

I quite like Hot Ticket, too, but i know it's disliked by a few around here.
