lana/lorna.....whatever!

Postby tenpercenter » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:14 am

frankly, after having just watched it again, the alomst half a season arc of episodes involving her and kirby is the worst thing the show ever did.

who cares about this horrid character? her son is a goof who doesnt belong on such a rich show.

did the producers honestly think we would invest in her?

these final season 8 eps and beginning of season 9 are just horrid to watch
with the exception of duan juan, but thats cose it focuses on frasier

the great thing about this show is it always focuses on the result and effect that anything had on the main cast.

here we are excpected to give a hoot about her divorce, her sons schooling etc...

blah!

Smart won two Emmys, so there must have been something right about the story/character.

I don't want to say anything against the acting skills of Jean Smart, but I hugley disliked her in 'Frasier' too. But that is only because firstly (and mostly) I would never try to become friends with such a loud and brash person in real life, and secondly I still find her very unsuitable and unconvincing love interest for a man like Frasier.

(But didn't she win just one Emmy for Frasier?)

I didn't mind Lana in the show. And i didn't mind Kirby, either. Definitely not the worst parts of the whole run.

Smart won Emmys for both S7 (for "Lorna" in Big Crane on Campus) and S8 (for the whole arc, but she submitted Semi-Decent Proposal, I think). She was, in fact, the first-ever guest-acting Emmy winner for the show. There were nominees every season except 10, but amazingly, Smart was the first winner. She repeated in S8, and, reviled as that season is, it was the only one where "Frasier" swept the guest acting categories, as Jacobi also won for "The Show Must Go Off." Following that, LaPaglia won as Simon for S9 (he had been nominated in S7 as well). Then Laura Linney won one as Charlotte in S11. Five total guest acting Emmy wins, all after S7, and two of them are Smart's.

since when is a an award a sign of a good performance?

she deserved it for s7, she was wonderful in campus

her crying on the bed about her divorce? please , no one cares about a character like that

and the fact that guy won for a the show must go off, he was terrible in a terrible episode
laura though is a gift to acting and is so warm, great for frasier

Sir Derek Jacobi. You know he was acting terribly on purpose don't you? It was part of the plot.

I really like the episode not only for Jacobi but for Patrick Macnee's winning little cameo too. There's also Frasier's wonderful line "The man has no instincts. Just stinks"

I don't like The Show Must Go Off but Derek Jacobi was very good in it. Convincingly awful!

I'd put myself on the 'like' side for The Show Must Go Off. Not the greatest episode by any means, but i enjoy it - and I love Jacobi's performance. Can't see any problem with him winning an award for the role.

the actor who plays frank, from batman, cant think of his name. now thats an emmy worthy performance, brings more than a loud mouth and is likeable despite being in frasiers way

Oh, yeah, Aaron Eckhart. He was excellent in those S11 eps.
